@templar007 when I first started playing Warhammer, I lived in the Canadian far north! Town was ~13,000 – one hobby shop, all the players knew each other. That was during Rogue Trader/early 2nd edition 40K and 4th/5th Warhammer Fantasy! Some of the best times for hobbying for me.
Calgary has the largest hobby shop in the world – yup; it is over 14,000sft over a mezzanine, a main floor, and an upper area (gaming area, games, historicals). Sentry Box – look it up. And there are loads of smaller shops around. Plus an actual GW store in the nicest mall in the city. The manager there is one of the top 5 longest serving managers for GW! I’ve known him since I moved to Alberta. A long time…
I was out of “the hobby” for a while, but when I got back in, GW made it easy to find people for sure.
For a city of this size, it’s also massively hurt by urban sprawl – I don’t even leave my “quadrant” if I don’t have to.
