The Great Egg Heist

About the Project
The premises of this diorama, is 'What if I had to pitch a whimsical fantasy movie to Guy Ritchie!' This is how the presentation would go. Imagine a cosmopolitan witch named Miss Tess T. Ickles who loves poached eggs in the morning - but not any old market eggs. She likes Farmer McGregor's prize winning fresh county eggs. What does Miss Ickles do?, she sends her goblin minions to raid McGregor's hen house. What Witch Ickles is unaware off, is that McGregor's farm falls under the auspice of the Great Garden Gnome Protectorate (the GGGP), and the these Gnomes ain't taking any of the goblins' stealing shenanigans. Most importantly because they tithe McGregor a few eggs a week for their protection (I am sure McGregor has no idea of this agreement!). Therefore, the scene is set. While the goblins are getting ready to flee the scene of the crime with their yolky bounty, a strike team of gun-tottling gnomes is sent by the GGGP to foil the plot.

The Project Begins
Hi everyone,
Today I started another diorama. I have been very busy with work these last few months, but also very satisfied with utilizing the little time I have building dioramas.
This diorama, is a wacky weird diorama. I have never tackled this kind of subject before, so I decided to dive in. Actually, the goblins were bought several years ago when I found a lot of Malifaux stuff on sale at my local hobby shop. I was never very interested in Malifaux, nor did I particularly like the miniatures, but the goblins always stood out to me. So I bought them and left them in my cupboard.
When I was rummaging through my stuff for inspiration for another diorama, they stood out, and I knew they were next.
The scale of this diorama is not specific but I would put it between 1/18 to 1/16. I started with the scenery as I always do, because if you do not know how big the diorama is going to be or where the scenery will fall, it is hard to determine what the miniatures will be doing and hence what story they are telling.
Since this is an egg heist, I started with the chicken coop. I will let the pictures tell the story, because I know a lot of members don’t like to read walls of text. Heregoes nothing.
The first thing that hit me was how delicate this Malifaux stuff is. Building these, in themselves is a challenge.
Establishing the size of the diorama (I tend to make them as compact as possible), and building the base of the structure with hard board treated with clear varnish. The next step is to paint the scenery up. I will tackle that in next week’s post.
Until then, stay safe and have fun.
