About the Project

This project will potentially be quite open ended. It will cover the hobby progress for the crew, enemies and terrain needed to play out sci-fi skirmish games, focusing on solo and co-op play. I am still not sure which rules system I will use, but it will likely be either 5 Parsecs from Home or Stargrave. Some minis have already been painted as part of other projects, as has the ship know as ‘Drifter’s Luck.

Also designed in Eldritch Foundry, he is a little larger than normal human sized. I started out by painting all the armour with flesh tearer contrast… then went on to paint Layla and PK Bot 😊

Asterion Thorn, Space Minotaur

I gave the red armour a series of light drybrushes with Mephiston and then Evil Sunz.

The final stage was just on the high points and had orange added. I then painted in the undersuit in rubber black and the flesh in a mid earthy brown.

After a review I decided to also paint the calves rubber black and the hip armour plates in a blacker black 😊. The black was edge highlighted in places, drybrushed in others.

I painted the gun in a dark grey for the casing and dark metal for the rest. It was given a blue glow in the barrel and green glow on the sights.

I also added some orange stripes by masking off as best I could.

There were some small armour plate details on the arms that I wanted to pick out. Initially I tried blue, but then went with black, highlighted up as per the other black parts.

The flesh was lightly drybrushed, then washed and given a final light drybrush. The tail was stippled with a darker brown on top, lighter underneath. Then some small dark spots were added near the end.

I picked out the central part of the face mask in blue, highlighted up the edges in two stages (not that you can see) and dotted in some black then orange for the eyes.

Another one designed in Eldritch Foundry.

I generated a robot crew member, but wanted to do something a bit different, so chose to have him wear clothes.

My initial thinking was to paint him up like a ‘Peaky Blinder’ character, hence the flat cap and the name I chose. However, while researching they seemed to be mostly greys or grey brown. Once I had primed and given him extra highlights for the shirt I decided on a different colour scheme…

Whilst painting him I got on a roll, so forgot to take many pics (which happens to me sometimes).

Went for a green waistcoat. To try to make it look more like a woollen fabric I stippled on a lighter green and did a few highlights.

Chose a dark brown for the trousers. The shirt was given a grey wash, re drybrushed, then given some sharper white highlights.

Then the trousers were lightly drybrushed with a mid brown, and I added highlights for the pockets edges and such. Picked out the red tie, highlighted up to orange. ‘Skin’ was Mithril silver, cap was painted with Basilicanum Grey, lightly drybrushed up.

Then a few final touches, including picking out the eyes in red, with a final dot of orange. He may go by the designation PK BL1-ND-R but will answer to either ‘PK’, or of course, ‘Wallace’ 😊

First up from the new batch is Layla Houston, a gene altered human. She was designed in Eldritch Foundry. I wanted her to appear a little ‘kooky’, but also quite deadly.

As usual I took quite a while trying to decide on a colour scheme, and tested out several using the photo editing on my phone. I plumped for yellow, pink and black. Yellow jacket, yellow and black boots, pink shirt, black and pink on the trousers.

I then went on to highlight the boots to give them definition, work on the hair, skin, glasses, gauntlets etc.

At this point I wasn’t sure regarding the trousers.

Canvasing my friends, and testing out via photo app again, I ended up going with black for the trousers, highlighting with a dark grey.

I think the original trousers were drawing the eye away too much, and this change allows more focus to remain in the torso area.

Added stages of finishing as usual.

I also decided to change the metal of the finger blades to graduated blue to white, which I think gives them more pop.

Additionally I attempted to paint on a pair of dice logo onto the back of the jacket. It reads well irl, but don’t expect to see accurate pics when you zoom in 😊

I have already painted up some models that will form part of the core crew for the ship. These were done as part of other projects, or between others.

And of course there is the ship itself, painted as part of Terrainfest 2025.
