It’s a very solid set. Harker is one of the better Questing Knights, and the Corsairs are great for completing the faction victory condition very quickly. The Line attacks are sneakily effective. You can line them up on an opponent’s objective to catch a powerful enemy unit on the line and complete bypass its attack prevention abilities.
If you need any help or advice on which faction to go with, John, then just ask! Also, there’s probably going to be small, informal tournament at Q-Con this year, specifically designed for new and new-ish players.
Great video on the Corsairs and some basics about Relic Knights, which is my favourite game. I’ve played Corsairs once or twice and like them, but started playing more seriously with the Shattered Sword Paladins (mainly due to the ease of painting them quickly for tournaments). I’d like to go back to the Corsairs sometime as they have some great characters – I love the Iron Chef!
I adore Relic Knights. It may be my favorite ruleset. Its a game that stands apart from everything else you’ve seen. Be aware that many skills and points of reference from other games do not apply here. if BoW start covering the game more I’ll definetly become more active on the site again.
The corsair models are actually among the worst in the range. They have a lot of style and the captain Harlock homage makes Harker a very cool character but it only gets better from here.
Yeah we hope to make a warm home for RK here 🙂
Watching you guys unbox this starter set makes me reconsider RK. My daughter liked the Cerci Circuit and I was looking at Black Diamond or Shattered Sword/Doctirne. But after a demo, it seemed that we would soon get bored of fighting the same 2 forces over and over. The card mechanics was refreshing, though.
Time for another look, maybe for just the hobby aspect.
The 30+ scenario combinations each means that you’re always playing a different game. Also, if you do grow a bit bored with your cadre then just one new miniature can make a real difference to how it plays. Scenery is a lot more interactive than most games too, so I find a different table makes a whole different feel to the game, more than usual.
Can’t wait to see what you guys think of the Noh Empire.
Seems like a good opportunity to give a shout out to my Noh painting thread lol

So without seeing the vid yet: how are there plastics these days. The 1st few runs were quite bad tbh.
The same pvc plastic for now. Some kits are very good. some are engineered very poorly. if you are willing to spend your time on the mold lines most can turn out quite good.
They switched to Prodos resin last summer so nothing has been released in plastic for about a year.
you mean there models are now all resin models? Wow that certainly sounds like an improvement. The thing was after mantic restic mold line madness i couldnt bear to think of scraping off and oddly placed mold line ever, and sadly some of these models suffered from these mold lines. But hearing this might actually get me into it since its a great game!
The models made in plastic are still plastic but everything released for the last year or so has been resin. I talked to one of the ninja division guys at a convention and they seem very motivated to make RK great. They are going to very slowly replace some of the plastics with either resins or plastics with better engineering on the molds. I think they mentioned starters remaining plastic.
The resin minis have exquisite detail and fiddly little parts but they are cast almost like garage kits with balsa wood and toothpicks for sprues.
Here’s a painted and unpainted example of the resins –

As @dais says, anything that was initially released in plastic is still available in plastic. Everything from GenCon onwards last year has been in resin. There will be resculpts of at least some of the plastics at some point.
There can rarely be a game as well received as Relic Knights. Ignoring the KS, I don’t remember hearing any bad word about it once it had landed.
When John Cadice and I talked at Gen Con, the plan is all sculpts will be going to Resin and the plastic will be going the way of the Dodo. I saw some of the resins at GenCon and they look sweet! I have the Shattered Swords and Noh Empire and Dawn has the Corsairs. I actually have been looking at picking up the Black Diamonds and Cersei Circuit as well. Even if I get them in the plastics, I can use them to test my painting skills on till I can get the resins. I really love this game and its mechanics.
