New Warhammer Tone Pro Paints Coming Next Week
October 5, 2026 by brennon
Games Workshop's latest adventure into the world of painting should be coming to you very soon. Warhammer Tone Pro will be available for you to dive into starting this coming weekend.
Warhammer Tone Pro // Games Workshop
You have already been able to test out the new Tone Pro paints at various Warhammer stores and a selection of friendly local gaming stores but this will be your chance to dive into the full range of thirty new colours, which are then spread across five tones. The idea, much like other systems in place by the likes of The Army Painter, is that you can look at a colour and work out the way to go from your base coat all the way to the tip, top highlight using the set of five tones.

As well as boasting a new range of colours, which will sit alongside the existing Warhammer Colour Paints, the idea is that these Tone Pro paints can give you excellent results right from the pot without the need for much in the way of thinning, if at all. The theme is that you'll be able to glaze, shade, highlight, basecoat and drybrush with a single paint.

This should also mean that tricky colours like yellows and whites should give you a good degree of coverage from the first coat. Much has also been made of the self-levelling properties of the Tone Pro range but that's something a lot of paints already do for you. After seeing examples of the Tone Pro paints in use, it is good to see it in action but it's not a massive "wow" moment.

As someone who is fully aware of other paint ranges but still uses the Citadel/Warhammer Colour range because its the tool I'm most familiar with, these are certainly going to be paints I look into. Having the various tones that should all act the same will be handy for my style of painting but I don't think I'll be going out of my way to snag all of them. I can see Celestine Skin being helpful in particular, especially as I have a whole bunch of Goliaths who need painting currently and I'm starting from a black primer.
Another of the selling points of the Tone Pro range has been the introduction of the new Mediums.
Shading & Blending Medium // Games Workshop
The Shading Medium turns any of the Tone Pro range into, you guessed it, a shade for use during your painting. The Blending Medium does what it says on the tin/pot, increasing the drying time of your paints, which then makes it easy for you to blend them together without having to go at it all the time with water.
All of these new Tone Pro paints, the Mediums and a set of new Drybrushes are all coming this weekend, so you might suddenly end up collapsing your painting desk under the weight of new paints. Remember, you can already go and test out some of the new paints at Warhammer stores, so maybe give them a test before you dive in.
What do you think of the new Tone Pro range?

It’s paints. In pots.
But I’m an AMATEUR.
I am no PRO.
I’M TONE DEAD.
Hi TONE DEAD, I’m dad.
I haven’t been paying much attention, but doesn’t this mean you need five paints for one colour? I get the principle, but I can’t help but look at this cynically.
Agreed. If one had no paints, nice to get all the shades; if one has 300+ paints on their wall, this is a piss-take.
