    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.ontabletop.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • I had a good one yesterday but forgot to write it down so it’s up to you lot this time: What’s on your mind this week?

And now back to the show.

    Pledge: finish the MAWM minis!

Question: Am I a real wargamer if historical games and periods don’t interest me in the slightest? Maybe? No? Yes?

    Music:

And now back to catch up on videos I missed because I went out to party.

That is a true scotsman question(tm).

Heck … I spend more time reading about wargames and collecting them than playing any of them.

Besides. Not everyone playing wargames set in real world history is playing them as ‘historic scenarios’ either.
There’s folks playing them more like ‘Hollywood history(tm)’ than actual History.

And again … if they’re having fun then they’re having fun.

Don’t feel ashamed for how you enjoy your games, provided you don’t harm or insult others for having ‘wrong fun(tm)’.

Heck, within certain Sci-Fi and Fantasy settings the games can be ‘historical’ as you’d be recreating events from that history. The only difference is that none of the events actually happened in our world and in our timeline.

    Pledge: do hobby

A real wargamer just plays war games. History doesn’t need to be the point as reality need not be invited to the party for conflict to occur. Take the completely made up game of tiny fighting men against a race of bugs bent on ultraviolence (they even made a movie with a famous shower scene.. “Would you like to know more?”). With the gaming in the gaps concept tou can mix and match what works. There is no need to become a philoscofer, like Gregory Peccary tried to be, in order to be a wargamer. Count me not a “Twue Woahgamuh” if there only be one Right and Proper Way™ as I fully enjoy harpooning the whale of history and bolting it to the bones of my own mythology for SAGA with a bit of magic. Making armies to be capable of stripping down fantasy elements in order to fit other universe books is just versatility. Think of it in the other direction as the sculpting of the Perry’s for GW’s Empire army to their War of the Roses and Mercenaries box sets.

War Gamer , no . Gamer of any sort , no . Model builder of war game scale vehicles & soldiers , yes . M3A1 Half TrackSherman M4A4

Never like board  games as a kid , missed the D&D / Warhammer excitement as I was too busy with family and work , when video games came out it was my kids that picked the games so I never found any that I liked . Building model kits was always in the background , loved the smell of a newly opened plastic kit , the paint and the glue . Still do .

Well who doesn’t? Same as a new book.

Pledge: Keep working on my scratch build even though it felt like none of the group noticed that I’d made an effort to build it when I used the part completed structure in game last night.

Only really played WW2 historical games. Tide of Iron and Bolt Action.

I prefer other games. Dead Man’s Hand (kinda historical if you ignore undead faction), 7TV, Warmachine/Hordes.

Maybe it’s because I came into wargaming from role-play that I don’t do much historical.
