Battlefront Preview New French Starter Force For Flames Of War
May 6, 2026 by brennon
Battlefront Miniatures has previewed a new 15mm French Starter Force that will be coming out soon to coincide with Flames Of War and Liberation of Italy: Forces on the Southern Front (1944-45). See what you think of this Limited Edition set that will be out in the Summer.
French - Compagnie de Tirailleurs Rifle Company // Flames of War
This set covers the Compagnie de Tirailleurs Rifle Company and introduces thirty-one infantry and nine gun teams into the mix. You get a good variety of the French here and for once, not a single tank in sight!

Inside the set, you'll find four Command Teams, four Bazooka Teams, twelve M1903 Rifle Teams, four M1919 LMG Teams, six 75mm Pack Howitzers, three 57mm Guns, one Goum Unit Leader Team and six Goum M1903 Rifle Teams.
The interesting addition to this set for me is the inclusion of the Goums or the Moroccan Goumiers. They were indigenous Moroccan soldiers who served as part of the French Army of Africa from 1908 through to 1956. They had a reputation as elite fighters and experts at mountain warfare.
The set also comes with limited-edition French Tokens, Objective Markers, and a code that unlocks the Liberation of Italy French Forces and Unit Cards as part of the Forces of War army builder.
Could you be tempted to pick this up alongside the Liberation of Italy?

This can’t be right……
A Battlefront release with NO Tanks (and no 88mm). I may have to pick up a box for playing in an Italian campaign (Note the Free French Algerian troops also fought not only in the traditional Goum dress, but also in US kit during the Italian campaign. A good point of reference is to watch “Days of Glory” (ok it’s subtitled, but better for it than a dodgy “Hollywood” dub with American accents).
Now I think about it, I might get two boxes 🙂
Just seen the German one, again Infantry and ATGs (and no tanks). BUT 4 88mm (the German DID use other ATGs you know) AND every infantry stand is a MG42 stand. A bit ridiculous if you ask me (for Germans holding the line in Italy) 🙁
