I’m finally making a start on my Late Sassanid army and starting small with a unit of Daylamite Light Infantry which can, with the removal of the main command models, also serve as Kurdish skirmishers too.

As usual, there are a more pictures and discussion re: Daylamites in Sassanian armies on my blog here:

I’ve based the unit on an image I had saved from the net but have now lost any reference to (if anyone can help with the reference I’d be grateful?)

    Much more to come soon.

    Cheers

Nicely done.  Aventine do some beautiful sculpts.  Look forward to seeing what’s next for your Sassanids.

    Thanks zoidpinhead.

They’re a very pretty army so I’m expecting a nice looking array of toys. 🙂

I bought some Wargames Foundry Sassanids to use as Skirmishers. These miniatures might have been released 25 plus years ago, but were not! They are really nice and just right for the action look of the skirmishers I wanted.

I went for three packs of Javelins (I will sprinkle a few slingers in these units) and four packs of archers. That should be two units of 13 Archers and two units of 13 Javelin types with the odd command miniature thrown in to make up the numbers

Given the numbers you mentioned, my guess is that you are planning to use them with Warhammer Ancient Battles?  Am I close?

Spot on Athelstan. Second Edition so some of the more bizarre rules are ironed out- still, it does feel dated to me at times.

That’s not to say we haven’t had some great games and good laughs, we certainly have. I just like exploring new possibilities.
