Anyone who knows me will know I am a big fan of Kore having backed a couple of their kickstarters and would have backed more if it weren’t for personal circumstances taking a massive turn for the worst. I think in terms of scenery, buildings are all very well but if you want to make something look believable you need to add some life to it and vehicles are a great way to do this, especially in games like Infinity. Kore have produced some fantastic stuff over the last two years in 6mm, 15mm and 32mm scales starting with the LARC and followed by the modern street cars and Big Vehicles. As well as planning a kickstarter in the very near future for Sci Fi cars (some of which can be seen in the images below) they will be releasing a Sci Fi tube train sometime around June – I believe that it is going straight to retail and will not be kickstarted due to the fact that there is only a single mold needs to be made which is where most of the costs lie in getting things from STL file to market. Everything else is lasercut from off the shelf materials (Acrylic sheet and acrylic tubes). Initially it will be available in the 15mm and soon to be followed by a 6mm version with a 32mm version due later this year. These images show the 15mm scale transit tube alongside some of their 15mm vehicles. I can’t wait for the 32mm transit tube to be released.

This is the three scales side by side.

I have to say I am surprised they have opted for 6mm instead of 10mm, which is more in keeping with both Dropzone Commander (10mm) and Adeptus Titanicus (which I think is either 8mm or 10mm). However when you start getting down to those scales, I think they tend to be a little more forgiving so maybe it wouldn’t look out of place on a Dropzone board.
Also, I have had the pleasure (and privilege) of being able to paint some of those sci-fi vehicles in the 28mm scale ahead of the kickstarter and the designs are just amazing. They fit really well alongside some of the Antenociti’s Workshop and Microart Studios vehicles which means you can really add a lot of variety to your tabletop.
Oh, I forgot to say I did ask and yes, curved tubes will be available at launch.
I do love a train, and while this looks great, it really is just eye candy and doesn’t offer much interaction on the table. Sure the supports can offer some cover, but putting models in the tubes or on top of the tubes is rather impractical. A more traditional track or monorail on a raised structure, while less futuristic, would at least give the possibilities to fight for the high ground and perhaps an advantage for controlling it.
Funny enough I also mentioned that as well, I think it’s being considered. I haven’t seen these in person (yet) so I don’t know for sure but it looks as though there’s some guides along the bottom edge of the carriage. These might allow it to be placed on a monorail rather than in a tube and you can pick up MDF monorail pieces from TTCombat.

I think on its own the train in a tube is maybe no more than eye candy. But when you start to maybe integrate it with stations it starts to have a little more value because it can be used as an objective. But it’s like I said, it’s there to add a sense of life to a board, personally I hate boards that are set up purely for the purpose of providing cover, I like them to look a little more believable and I fully admit that involves putting things on the table that perhaps add nothing to the game in terms of tactics.
