Hi,
I’ve been looking into using oil washes on 28mm Historical miniatures and have found a ton of stuff on Fantasy/Sci Fi stuff in terms of tutorials/vids. Either my google foo is very off or the tutorials/vids simply do not exist.
I’m aiming to use them for The Crimean War, Ancients, Dark Ages and Late Medieval mini’s.
Does anyone know of any such tutorials/vids using Oil Washes on 28mm Historical miniatures?
Thanks.
it depends what you’re looking for, if it’s a comprehensive tutorial for a specific thing like painting a Scot’s Grey you’re unlikely to find it.
If it’s more about using oils in general then there are some of those about and even the fantasy tutorials will do the job.

Those will hopefully get you started but if you have any questions drop them below and I’ll do my best to answer you
Thanks.
The first video is more like it but his colour application is extremely garish.
The Sci Fi/Fantasy vids are really of no use as an illustration of how a model might turn out like as the details on fantasy miniatures etc is much more pronounced than that of 99% of all historical miniatures. They are usually very different types of sculpts in the way in which the details are managed.
I’m not really following you.
The application is exactly the same, the sculpt doesn’t make a difference. The pigmentation of oils tends to be higher than acrylics but they come in three different transparencies, but otherwise if you want to paint a miniature you pick and mix the colours as you would with any other medium.
The only difference is the drying time makes blending much easier.
