New Gargant “Miniatures” Stride Into Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

Games Workshop seems to be taunting me by not revealing the new Fyreslayers for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. In their stead, we have some new Sons of Behemat miniatures, which admittedly look pretty damn awesome. The faction has now been fully "Sigmarified", stepping away from the look of Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

Ma Maegran - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Ma Maegran // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

To lead this transition, we have a brand-new character miniature in the form of the towering Ma Maegran. She is the Chosen of the Mighty, a seer amongst the Gargants who bow to her say when it comes to matters of the future. She has a really awesome Celtic vibe to her, which feels like it harks back to the journeys to Albion in Warhammer Fantasy Battles and the strange characters we met there, like the Dark Emissaries and Truthsayers.

Ma Maegran also needs protection on the battlefield and that comes in the form of two equally impressive Ancient Ghyrochs. They are infused with the magic of Ghyran and, despite their size, tend to go unnoticed until the enemy is too close and can't escape from them!

New Multi-Part Plastic Gargants

As well as Ma Maegran, you will also be able to get your hands on a new multi-part plastic kit which will allow you to build more of the rank-and-file Gargants that make up a Sons of Behemat army. The Boss-stompers are your melee option (although, to be honest, all Gargants are a melee option).

Boss-Stomper #1 - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Boss-stompers come with a variety of large and deadly-looking clubs for battering the enemy to death. As you might have guessed by their name, they also have a penchant for hunting out characters and making sure they have a very bad day.

I like that you already have lots of different options available to you when you're building your Gargants for the new-look Sons of Behemat. I'm sure that folks are going to go above and beyond with the kitbashing when it comes to these miniatures as well. You'll note that you now also have male and female versions of the Gargants to vary up your army!

The "ranged" option then comes in the form of the Rock-hurlers, which can be made out of the same kit as the Boss-stompers.

Rock-hurler #1 - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Rock-hurlers do what you'd expect. They pick up massive pieces of rock and shattered buildings and throw them at the enemy, hoping that it turns them into a sticky paste. Again, you get a good set of options in the box for you to build various versions of the Rock-hurlers alongside female Gargants looking to cause some chaos.

It seems like Games Workshop aren't getting rid of the standard Mancrusher Gargant just yet but I would expect to see plenty of these new Gargants popping up in Sons of Behemat armies. In terms of scale, they are a bit bigger than Mancrushers but not as big as a Mega-Gargant, so they sit right in the middle of the pack. I think I could be tempted to drop Mancrushers entirely, depending on how many points these fellows are.

New Sons of Behemat Rules

We'll no doubt find out more when Battletome: Sons of Behemat lands later this year. As with all updates, this will come with new lore, artwork, rules and more for running the Sons of Behemat on the tabletop.

The Warhammer Community article mentions that these Sons of Behemat miniatures and the new Battletome will be up for pre-order soon, so maybe they'll follow swiftly on the heels of the Orks in Warhammer 40,000. It's not long since we had the Ogors Mawtribes. The Warhammer Age of Sigmar love is coming thick and fast.

What do you make of the new miniatures for the Sons of Behemat?
