Demonic Usurpers & More Come To Mantic Games’ Kings Of War
May 4, 2026 by brennon
Mantic Games begin their Summer of new releases for 28mm Fantasy wargame, Kings of War, with the addition of new character miniatures and options for those starting out for the Forces of the Abyss and the Ogres. We start with a fearsome, demonic Usurper.
Teynne the Usurper // Kings of War
This is the latest named character for the Forces of the Abyss, ready to sow chaos and disorder through the lands of Pannithor. Teynne has carefully crafted all manner of blasphemous acts into being, like manipulating a Basilean officer to attack his own folk, the plunder of Brotherhood relics and even the slaying of an ancient necromancer. He is a fearsome Archfiend who has crawled his way to the top of the ladder.
He was thought to be cut down in battle but he has now made his return to Pannithor with designs on inflicting more pain and misery on anyone who gets in his way. This new miniature for Teynne comes in resin and seems like a great option to lead your Abyssal forces on the tabletop.
If he has caught your eye, then you might be tempted to pick up some of the Forces of the Abyss miniatures from the new pre-orders. Maybe you'd even like to take a big step into Kings of War with one of the Warhost Bundles?
Forces of the Abyss Warhost // Kings of War
This comes with...
- 1 x Lord of Lies (Warlord)
- 1 x Bloody Cardinal (Champion)
- 2 x Succubi Regiments (Core)
- 2 x Lower Abyssal/Flamebearer Regiments (Core)
- 1 x Lower Abyssal/Flamebearer Troop (Auxiliary)
- 1 x Gargoyles Troop (Auxiliary)
- 1 x Hellhounds Troop (Auxiliary)
- 1 x Berserkers Troop (Specialist)
- 1 x Abyssal Horsemen Regiment (Specialist)
- 1 x Nagarri Regiment (Support)
- 1 x Well of Souls (Support)
A solid starting point for someone diving into playing the Forces of the Abyss on the tabletop. I particularly like the still brilliant Lord of Lies miniature.
Mighty Ogre Commanders
If you'd prefer to side with the Ogres of Pannithor, then you can also get a new miniature to lead them on the tabletop, too. See what you think of the Ogre Sergeant.
Ogre Sergeant // Kings of War
Recruited by the captains of the Ogre kingdoms, this young brave is given more advanced weapons training and taught how to drill others of his kind on the battlefield. This Ogre would be a great way for you to lead a band of mercenaries onto the battlefield and vanquish more foes for the highest bidder across Pannithor.
This is another resin miniature from Mantic Games and I like that, by happy accident or not, they appear to have copied a pose from one of their earliest miniatures, the classic Dwarf King.
Much like the Forces of the Abyss, there are also different options for those wanting to dive into playing the Ogres in games of Kings of War.
Ogre Warhost // Kings of War
This Warhost Bundle comes with a great host of the ace plastic Ogres and Goblins alongside some really characterful elite options for expanding your army. This set comes with...
- 1 x Ogre Warlord (Warlord)
- 1 x Arokamorra (Champion)
- 1 x Ogre Sergeant (Champion)
- 3 x Ogre Warrior/Boomer Regiments (Core)
- 1 x Ogre Hunters Troop (Core)
- 2 x Red Goblin Regiments (Auxiliary)
- 1 x Ogre Berserker Braves Troop (Specialist)
- 1 x Ogre Warrior/Boomer Chariots Regiment
- 1 x Ogre Siege Breakers Regiment
- 1 x Red Goblin Slasher
- 1 x Giant
...so even more fun to be had from this one. I like the bonus Giant in there, although I am still a big fan of the classic Braves, Warriors, and such that make up the core of the Ogre force. The Goblins from Mantic are also really nice, especially after the move to plastic kits.
Make sure to check out more from the recent pre-orders if you'd like to dive deeper into the collection.
Drop your thoughts below on the direction that Mantic are taking Kings of War...
