alexanderb commented on the post, Greek Heavy Cavalry To Ride Forth From Victrix 9 years, 6 months ago
In the end, the Greeks didn’t use heavy shock cavalry primarily for culutral reasons.
It was very viable even then, as seen in practice when used by, among others, the Persians and Macedonians.

I’m not neccessarily saying AoS has been a “success” (in my local area it has been, but anecdotes as evidence and all), and as much as I enjoy the game, I’ll freely admit that there was obvious issues with how it was put into practice. I’m just saying it’s doing better than fantasy was. Saying […]

There’s obviously a lot of possible reasons for Alan getting the boot (if he has, as far as I know it isn’t confirmed)
Poor sales for AoS is probably not one, though, since we know for a fact that it’s making more money than WHFB was before it, per the latest sales figures.

alexanderb commented on the post, MoMMiniatures New Dwarf Ranges Ahead 9 years, 8 months ago
The crossbow simply doesn’t do it for me. It’s too big and wonky-looking, which is a shame.
Of course, given the price-range these are in, there isn’t too much room to really complain, and they’re probably going to be sterling value for money.

I’m honestly not sold on the watch captain.
That head just ruins the entire thing for me.

I like these very much.
Hopefully they’ll be as good in model form.

I will agree that it’s obviously a question of taste.
Generally I find PP minis a strange mix of being far too busy and having wonky proportions and detailing.
“on average above mediocre” simply isn’t good enough if your minis cost more per piece than GW, however.
-
alexanderb commented on the post, Bloody Buccaneers & MORE Characters Coming To Warmachine 9 years, 8 months ago
As mediocre as PP minis usually are.
It’s a colossal shame, really, cause’ the rules are as solid as they are. If only they could produce minis even half as good, they’d be set.

Not only is GW as a company not one douche manager, I question your taste in miniatures.
The Yetees? Good sculpts? You jest, surely?

I like the general design, but I’m not sold on the crest, which is far to far forward on the helmet, and the sword, which is too big, terribly designed, and generally breaks the Greek-ish theme.

As nice as they are, these have been around since at least 2011, since that’s when I saw the Bucephalus the first time.
Still It’s nice to see them get some notice.

I can’t say that I’m too impressed, unfortunately.
Perhaps not all that surprising, to be honest, given that Mantic certainly has taken the adage “you get what you pay for” to heart.

Now, as a historian that study mediaval and renaissance armour quite a lot, that armour looks absolutely terrible and would get you killed fairly quickly.
As a miniature collector and wargamer, it looks bloody awesome, bar the terrible heels.

That in no way excuses hipocrisy, though.
If this same action would justify rage against GW (and you know that it would, don’t pretend otherwise) then it should justify the same rage against PP.

Imagine if GW had done this. The shitstorm would be exterminatus level Yet when PP does it, there’s people defending the decision. With my own opinion of the whole issue left unsaid, I suggest that you people that would have GW’s head on a platter for this start sharpening your axes to use against PP […]

Sure, but it set the precedent that people are free to leech off of the more generic parts of their IP.
Hence they thought it neccessary to make it less generic.

They’d be usable as very early Byzantines, but not as later Tagmatic or thematic units.
During those times the Imperial Army’s equipment had changed too much to br represented by these.
