Warlord Games are now taking pre-orders for a range of new miniatures and a new supplement that allows you to play out The Ottoman Wars using their Historical wargaming rules, Pike & Shotte. See what awaits with The Highest Throne.

The Highest Throne - Pike & Shotte

The Highest Throne // Pike & Shotte

The Highest Throne goes into detail about the warfare between the Ottoman Empire and nations in Europe throughout the course of the 1500s and the 1600s. You'll find rules for fighting out some of the famous battles like the Great Siege of Malta, the Ottoman attack on Vienna and a swathe of lesser-known battles that took place throughout the Mediterranean and beyond.

This ends up giving you a snapshot of these clashes with all sorts of fascinating angles for you to consider when it comes to your wargames...

"Within these pages you will encounter Portuguese adventurers fighting in Ethiopia, outnumbered Hungarian and Croatian cavalry charging heroically out of besieged fortifications, Venetians fighting the Ottomans in the Parthenon’s shadow, Polish Winged Hussars leading devastating charges, and legendary figures like Suleiman the Magnificent and the Knights Hospitaller."

As well as rules, you'll also get the extensive Historical background of the period provided through pictures, maps and plenty of deep dives into the colourful characters from the period. One such character is the special figure available alongside the book (see above), Kara Mustaga Pasha.

He was a Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire and commanded their forces during the Siege of Vienna. Whilst he was on the cusp of victory, he was eventually beaten by King John III Sobieski at the head of a column of Winged Hussars. He would pay for this defeat with his life when Sultan Mehmed IV strangled him with a silken cord. Ouch.

New Miniatures

As well as the book, a bevvy of new miniatures are coming out to support the Polish Ottoman clashes on the tabletop. For example, you can get the very same King John III Sobieski as a miniature.

John III Sobieski King of Poland & Grand Duke of Lithuania - Pike & Shotte

King John III Sobieski // Pike & Shotte

Considered by many to be the most famous king in Polish History, he made a reputation for himself at the Battle of Vienna. He was a nobleman, military leader and king, fighting almost constantly against the various enemies that threatened the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. He fought Cossack rebellions, Crimean Tartars, the Ottoman Empire, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Russian Czar and many, many rebels. This makes him a perfect leader for your new Polish force on the tabletop.

As well as Sobieski, you can also get loads and loads of new infantry and cavalry for your armies...

Polish-Lithuanian Infantry with Muskets - Pike & Shotte

Polish-Lithuanian Mecernary Pikemen - Pike & Shotte

Polish-Lithuanian Mercenary Pikemen // Pike & Shotte

You can get the likes of the Ottoman Janissaries Regiment but also the Hajduks Regiment and the Polish-Lithuanian Infantry with Muskets to give you a taste of what's available from the infantry selection. All of these miniatures and more are also available as smaller sets rather than just as regiments. This means if you want to bulk out a unit or just pick up a handful for use in some of your skirmish games, you can do that too.

Cavalry also plays a big part in the battles of this period and the folks at Warlord Games have put together plenty of releases for that side of your army!

Polish Winged Hussars Regiment - Pike & Shotte

Polish Winged Hussars Regiment // Pike & Shotte

The iconic Polish Winged Hussars are going to be a resplendant site thundering across the battlefield to smash through enemy ranks. I forgot how cool the Winged Hussars are until I saw this set again; their horses are eager to rush forward and bring those lances to bear against the enemy.

Pancerni Heavy Cavalry Regiment - Pike & Shotte

Ottoman Sipahi Cavalry Regiment - Pike & Shotte

You also have the likes of the Pancerni Heavy Cavalry and the Ottoman Sipahi Cavalry to include in your force. Much like with the infantry, all of these units are available in different sizes, so you can mix and match as much as you like.

Warlord Games has also gone into detail about each of these units over on their webstore, so if you're interested in finding out more about them and how they fit into The Ottoman Wars, you'll have a little primer to get you ready.

If you'd like to see more of the range from Warlord Games, you can head on over to their website HERE and take a deep dive into all of the various soldiers fighting out the Polish Ottoman Wars!
