Games Workshop might be revelling in the launch of the 11th Edition, but Warhammer: The Horus Heresy continues to evolve with new plastic releases alongside additional rules. We kick things off with more Space Marines of the MkIV "Maximus" variant as part of a new Battle Group.

Maximus Battle Group - Warhammer The Horus Heresy

Maximus Battle Group // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy

The Maximus Battle Group comes with twenty of the brand-new Tactical Marines in this variant of armour for use in games of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. As with all of the Space Marines in The Horus Heresy range, they are fairly customisable, meaning that you can kitbash and convert your Space Marines, be they Traitors or Loyalists, with all sorts of different armour to reflect the changing fortunes of the Legion over the course of The Heresy.

The set also comes with ten MkIV Assault Marines with options for chainswords or power lances in addition to a Sicaran Battle Tank and a Contemptor Dreadnought. This could serve as a good starting point for someone looking to explore Warhammer: The Horus Heresy.

The Whirlwind Missile Tank, a classic vehicle from the annals of Warhammer history, also makes a return to the tabletop with a new plastic kit.

The Whirlwind Missile Tank can be armed with either HE or Pyrax missiles, meaning that it can crush enemy infantry from the other side of the battlefield. Clear out objectives, turn the land into craters and then send in your new MkIV Space Marines to claim it back in the name of The Emperor.

Warhammer: The Horus Heresy - Zone Mortalis

Lastly, you can also get your hands on a new Journal for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. Zone Mortalis reintroduces rules for fighting in tight, tense skirmishes in hive cities, onboard ships and more.

This new book updates the existing rules for your tense 1500-point battles set in those confined spaces. You will get loads of new missions to play out and some new unit choices to pick from when forming your army. Whilst the big battles of The Horus Heresy are iconic, I do think that Zone Mortalis is a great way to start playing the game. It provides you with fascinating battlefields that involve different tactics from your regular battles.

All of these offerings will be coming up for pre-order this weekend. Do you like the idea of the new mark of armour and will you be mixing it into your Legion?
