A New Duellist Joins John Blanche’s En Garde As Add-On

A new duellist has been unlocked and added to John Blanche's En Garde on Kickstarter. This new 54mm miniature was going to be part of the full game release but Patrick Masson finished sculpting him recently and he has been added to the campaign! Meet Ben Barbarine.
Ben Barbarine - Twin Sword of the Coast // En Garde
He will be produced in the same fashion as the other miniatures from En Garde. That means a high-quality resin miniature with additional metal parts like his arms (and weapons) plus the top piece of the helmet.

This particular version of the character has been painted by Gavin Beaton and gives you an idea of how different he can look alongside some of the other duellists. He also comes with a full background, thanks to Tuomas Pirinen, explaining his place within the world of En Garde.
"Honour, spirit of competition and the glory of the Taifa are of utmost importance to Barbarine who sees himself as the embodiment of his proud culture’s warrior traditions and as the representative of his nation. Thus it is said that this towering warrior has never taken a step back in his duelling career, and that he carries no wounds on his back, having always faced his challengers head-on."
You can read more about the character HERE on the Kickstarter page. As with the other fighters from the range, he can be included alongside your pledge, so you've got more options and a new painting challenge to tackle. He could be done in the same style as Beaton has gone for here, or something a bit more Grimdark, should the fancy take you.

As well as the miniature, we also got a look at the concept art from John Blanche that inspired the figure. It's great to see how the concept has carried over from the original art piece into the final design.

Maybe this ended up being the little nudge that you needed to step into the world of En Garde and pick up one of these 54mm miniatures. Even if you don't end up playing the game when it comes out, this could be a fun challenge for you as a painter.
What do you make of the swashbuckling Ben Barbarine?
