New Plastics! Warhammer: The Old World’s Tomb Kings March Again

One of the launch armies of Warhammer: The Old World was the Tomb Kings of Khemri and whilst it was a welcome return for the army, it did come with some pretty "classic" miniatures for wargamers to deal with. Well, Games Workshop is remedying that with some new-look plastic miniatures for Settra’s undead legions.

The stalwart core of a Tomb Kings army gets a really nice upgrade to bring the undead in line with the look and feel of modern skeletons in the Games Workshop range. Namely, that means less of the bow-legged look and (hopefully) much easier to assemble!

At the core of the army of the Skeleton Warriors (above), who still come with their unique Tomb King Egyptian-style shields alongside options for spears or hand weapons. The set also comes with the options for making your full command section, including a skeleton tooting away on a horn.

The Skeleton Archers will also be taking aim and blotting out the blisteringly hot sun of Khemri.

Much like the Skeleton Warriors, you'll get lots of options for your Command element alongside some nice posing for the skeletons that make up your regiment of highly-trained archers. I like that they've captured them in different moments. Some are reloading, others are aiming and some are firing. You can create a really nice regiment with these.

It's well worth remembering that unlike the shambling legions of the Vampire Counts who bring any old bugger back from the dead to fight in their armies, the Tomb Kings are a trained and diligent army commanded by impressive generals. So, keeping this more regimented and elite look to the miniatures works really well.

Last but not least, the classic Skeleton Chariot has also got an upgrade. You have the same command options here alongside plenty of different ways for you to customise the chariots to suit your army.

These should all scale nicely with existing Tomb Kings miniatures from the original launch box but I can see plenty of folks opting to get started with a new army of these skeletal warriors rather than plumping for the older boxed sets. All of these miniatures will be available first in a new Host of Nehekhara Army Reinforcement Set.

There are seventy-eight miniatures in this set covering thirty-six Skeleton Warriors, thirty-six Skeleton Archers and six Chariots. Enough to give you a sizable core of a Battle March army (and then some) or your first 1000-point army.

In this book, Settra the Imperishable leads his armies into the depths of the forest, Athel Loren, threatening the kingdom of the Wood Elves. This follows on from their ravaging of the Border Princes, introducing options for the Barrow Kingdoms Army of Renown and the Gargantuan Treeman for your Wood Elf armies. You'll also find loads of new lore, artwork and new rules for magic and enchanted terrain. Not sure chariots will do too well with all those trees.
