New Riders Of Rohan Finally Charge Into Middle-earth SBG Battles
July 1, 2026 by brennon
Games Workshop are finally releasing those new plastic Riders of Rohan and their Commanders that we saw ages ago! You'll be able to pre-order the new plastics this weekend for use in your Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game armies from the era of the War of the Rohirrim and The Lord of the Rings.
Warriors of Rohan Commanders // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
We start with the Warriors of Rohan and their commanders. This set allows you to build a brand-new plastic Captain (with a few different build options) alongside a Warrior with a Banner and a Warrior with a War Horn. All of the key elements you need for running any Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game warband alongside iconic heroes like Eomer, Theoden and Eowyn.
These commanders then sit alongside the classic Riders of Rohan that will form the core of pretty much every Rohan warband on the tabletop. You wouldn't be very Rohirrim without some cavalry on hand to hunt down Hill Tribesmen and nefarious Orcs.
Riders of Rohan // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
The set of six miniatures is armed with armour and shields, hand weapons and bows. Four of them also include the option to use throwing spears and on top of that, all six riders and horses are interchangeable so you can mix and match to suit you.
This is a really nice upgrade to Rohan, bringing the range in line with the rest of the miniatures that we saw come out a while ago now for War of the Rohirrim. This reminds me that I should probably break out that box again and actually paint up the miniatures so I can play some games. I feel like I have been neglecting the Middle-earth part of my hobby for a while.
New Hill Tribesmen
One of the ancient enemies of the Rohirrim has been the Hill Tribesmen and the Men of Dunland. Well, this rabble has also got a new plastic set of commanders for you to use in your games.
Hill Tribesmen Commanders // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
This set comes with components for making a Chieftain plus a Warrior with a Banner and a Warrior with a War Horn, similar to what we got with the Rohirrim. The Chieftain can either be armed with a two-handed weapon or a hand weapon and shield. This set works well for creating the Hill Tribesmen of the War of the Rohirrim but also the Wild Men of Dunland from The Lord of the Rings who served Saruman. That means you can also build the Wild Man Oathmaker, pictured above.
New Middle-earth Supplement
All of this comes together around a new supplement for the latest edition of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game, The Burning of the Westfold.
The Burning of the Westfold // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
The Burning of the Westfold comes with eleven linked narrative scenarios that allow you to play out some of the iconic battles from the War of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings. You'll find hobby guides, tips on painting horses, a way to make your own Fords of Isen and more for crafting the plains of Rohan and your Rohirrim settlements. These supplements have been great so far and proven to be lovely little resources for those diving into Middle-earth on the tabletop.
Could you be tempted to refresh your Rohirrim with these new plastic miniatures?
