Another Games Workshop army getting a much-needed refresh is that of the Ogor Mawtribes for Warhammer Age of Sigmar! The old miniatures from the days of Warhammer Fantasy Battles have been refreshed and given a new look and feel for use in The Mortal Realms.

Ogor Mawtribes Army Set - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Ogor Mawtribes Army Set // Warhammer: Age of Sigmar

Leading the way for the Ogor Mawtribes is the brand-new Army Set, which comes with a feast of new miniatures (hur hur). The set comes with new plastic miniatures for the Tyrant, your core troops in the form of Gluttons and Ironguts and then some of the new Maulbeast Cavalry.

The look and feel of the Ogors retain much of the old aesthetic, with a lot of tweaks here and there that fit the modern style of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. You'll also find that the miniatures are very nicely sculpted and packed with detail to make them fun for painters.

Ogor Tyrant - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Ogor Tyrant // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Ogor Tyrants lead the way and are the first into the fray alongside their fellow Ogors. They can be armed with a mixture of hammers, mauls and cleavers, plus different backbanners and cloaks which can be used to theme your Ogors.

Ogor Tyrants will often find themselves fighting alongside core troops like the Gluttons. They also come with lots of different options so you can create some really characterful Gluttons with a bit of personality to them.

Gluttons - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Gluttons // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Stepping away from the regimented confines of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, these new Ogors are also more dynamic, swinging their weapons around and getting ready to smash their way into the front lines of an enemy army.

The more elite element of the Ogor Mawtribes goes to the Ironguts. These bodyguards and enforcers of the Ironguts heft some seriously brutal weapons onto their shoulders and should be able to cleave their way through pretty much anything in The Mortal Realms.

Ironguts - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Ironguts // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

I like that the Asian theme and feel to the Ogors remains throughout the collection of miniatures we've seen so far. It has been dialled down in places but I could still see all of these looking like Oni if you painted their skin in bright red! I also absolutely love the helmets, which fit into the idea of them being part of a bull-like charge, their heads down as they thunder towards the enemy.

The Mournfangs of the past have also been replaced with Maulbeasts. The set in the box allows you to build either the Maulbeast Cavalry or the more specialised Maulbeast Raiders.

Maulbeast Raiders - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Maulbeast Raiders // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The regular cavalry are there as thundering shock troops for your Ogor Mawtribes army, whilst the Raiders take on the role of mobile hunters, wearing down their enemies with ranged fire before they charge in and chomp on their foes.

The boxed set also comes with the new Ogor Mawtribes Battletome (a special edition version) but it will also be available separately too.

Ogor Mawtribes Battletome - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Destruction Battletome: Ogor Mawtribes // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

This comes with new lore that explores the background of the Ogors as an army and the worship of their gluttonous deity. You will find all of the new rules for the Ogor Mawtribes plus more on the subset of Ogors known as the Mawseekers who are led by the fearsome Redd the Maw.

More Ogor Miniatures On The Horizon!

As well as the Ogors from the boxed set, you will also be able to get your hands on more new plastic Ogors for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. They are led by the aforementioned Redd the Maw, High Slaughtermaster.

Redd the Maw - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Redd the Maw // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Redd the Maw is a prophet of the monstrous god of the Ogors. This brutal wizard can inspire those around him, pulled into battle on the back of a bubbling cauldron by a snarling Gorger. He is then backed up by some of his Mawseeker acolytes who will let no one get close enough to disrupt the plans of the spellslinging Redd the Maw.

Those who follow in Redd's wake are equally bloodsoaked and dangerous when summoning up magic or in the heart of combat.

Butcher - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Butcher // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Butcher has had a proper glow-up, although I don't know if that's a very good way of describing it considering all the blubber and guts! You get a couple of different head options as well, which will be handy if you're running multiple Butchers.

More of the followers of Redd come in the form of the Cleavers. As you might have guessed, they fit rather nicely into the expanded theme for the Ogor Mawtribes.

Cleavers - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Cleavers // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Cleavers are an elite infantry unit that have an appetite for the arcane. They are very good at hunting down wizards and priests, happy enough to then throw their bodies into their cooking pots to brew up interesting concoctions. The Cleavers set also allows you to build the Gutseers.

Gutseers - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Gutseers // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Gutseers are able to offer up support for your wizards in an Ogor Mawtribes army. You can use them to channel magic through and use it to bring more brutality to the battlefield. This is an excellent refresh and update to the existing Ogor Mawtribes range and should make a lot of Destruction fans very happy. This makes me feel good about what's on the cards for the likes of the Fyreslayers and other Duardin in Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

Are you going to be picking up the new Ogor Mawtribes?
