Games Workshop will be taking pre-orders for the new Khazalite Holds Army Set this weekend, bringing a new faction into the Mortal Realms of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The Duardin are on the march and ready to reclaim their ancient holds.

Like any good Dwarf/Duardin, the Khazalite Holds locked themselves way in their mountain fastnesses but the grumblings started to become louder as the battles raged outside their walls. So, these Duardin have decided to march forth and scourge Chaos from the Mortal Realms, bringing the power of their Ancestor Gods with them.

This rousing of the Holds comes just in time, especially as the forges of the Fyreslayers are snuffed out by the enemy and the great flying cities of the Kharadron Overlords are being blasted from the skies. Those Skaven and the Helsmiths of Hashut need to be bashed around good and proper!

The Army Set introduces the Khazalite Holds into Warhammer Age of Sigmar with a new and exclusive (cover design) Battletome alongside fifty-three Warscroll Cards for running these Duardin on the battlefield. It also happens to contain the miniatures for Drakkblud’s Clanguard Spearhead, so you can begin playing right away.

Leading the way for this Spearhead is the mighty Hjulda Drakkblud. She is a famed hero and reclaimer of lost holds, ready to make even more of a name for herself.

She looks great and comes with a massive axe, as is tradition amongst the Duardin. I also like that she has a book that mostly contains grudges on her belt. Get ready to strike out some of those grudges and maybe record a few more. It should also be a good chronicle for her deeds!

The majority of your Khazalite Holds army is then going to be built up of doughty Clanshields like the ones you see here.

You get ten of them in the set, armed with a mixture of axes and hammers, which are rather suitable Duardin staples. I like that the miniatures capture a lot of the core elements of "Dwarves", notably big, heavy armour, beards and not much in the way of fancy frills. They look like they should be very easy to paint and get ready for the tabletop, which is always a bonus.

One of the heftier elements of the Army Set is the inclusion of the Gholems of Gazul.

Gholems of Gazul // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Gazul is the Duardin god of death and so including them within your force is a surefire way to tell the enemy that you mean business. Again, these look like they should be fairly easy to get built and ready for the tabletop, perhaps painted in the colours of your chosen clan. I quite like the idea of doing them as animated stone rather than metal, harking back to an older time.

Last but not least, we have the Oathkeeper Cannon, which can punch a hole through a Mega-Gargant and then keep on going.

Oathkeeper Cannon // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

An Oathkeeper Cannon is manned by a team of engineers and smiths who hammer the proper runic power into each shot that is then loaded into the back. This gives you a cool mini-diorama to paint up as well as a lethal bit of kit for punching holes in enemy monsters. It will also send regular infantry scattering like skittles should a round start skipping through their ranks.

Whilst all of the miniatures here can be built to represent the Spearhead, the Cannon and the Gholems also have variant build options if you're using this for the start of a different army. You're going to want all of this in your collection anyway, I would guess, so maybe start with the Spearhead guide first before venturing deeper into what the Khazalite Holds have to offer.

What do you make of the Army Set?
