Many folk will know The Lazy Forger for their work on the small-scale Sci-Fi wargame, Full Spectrum Dominance, which features a heck of a lot of mechs, tanks and power armour-clad troops. Well, they have been distracted of late and drawn back into a Historical project they started back in 2022.

Viking Hirdsmen - The Lazy Forger

Viking Hirdmen // The Lazy Forger

The Lazy Forger had been playing Warmaster at the local club and realised that they didn't like the look of all of the older armies. Too regimented and lacking in dynamism. So, the Western Kingdoms were born and work also started on an opponent for them that had a distinctly more raider-like feel.

Work has been going into crafting some awesome new 10mm-scale Vikings (12mm to the tops of their heads) rather than the 6mm army that was the Western Kingdom. The idea was to build a set of miniatures that weren't tied to solid bases, no rigid strips of eight figures all standing right next to each other. The Lazy Forger also worked on bundles of two or three figures who could be joined together to form a line of shields. A shield wall, you might say.

This Viking/Norseman range has expanded quite a bit in recent weeks and now boasts miniatures for Hirdmen, Bondi, a Command strip, and Berserkers to smash through the enemy lines. There should be enough by the time The Lazy Forger is finished to cover all of the options from a Warmaster list.

The Lazy Forger also has their sights set on doing some Skirmishers and Archers as well as Generals to lead the way on the battlefield. If you thought the miniatures looked good in their bare plastic, wait until you see them painted up!

Rather striking, I think you'll agree. I really like the scheme that The Lazy Forger has gone for, with the immediately intense red and white drawing the eye. I also love the miniature of the Berserker leaping off the shield of his companion to smash into the enemy lines in front of him. So cool!

There is no set timeframe for when these Vikings will become available for others to buy. Everything is proceeding at a leisurely pace as The Lazy Forger takes their Fridays to work through these. I can see them being very popular once they do land.

What do you make of these 10mm Vikings?
