Kingdom Death, Sorted By Monster & Armour Type

Lantern armour requires no special monster to make, but requires metal, which is a very rare resource.  I’m a little loose with what I think can pass for Lantern Armour.  If it’s metal, it can pass.  As other sets enter the game I might recategorize some of them.

The first of the Expansions of Death Vol. 1 models.  He comes with armour sprues, but I’m not building any of the EoD V1 armour kits until I’ve fought their monster enough to know what I want to build.  I also wanted to see what models are out there first, to avoid duplication.  Hence, this projects existence.

Base: VMC 70.873 US Field Drab
Highlight: Mix in progressively more VMC Panzer Aces 340 Highl Afrika Corps and airbrish from steeper angles
Drybrush: P3 Menoth White Base
Undercoat eyes with white

Beetle Armour:
Undercoat: Gloss Black
Base: Vallejo Eccentric Colours 77.010 Emerald Green Mauve Shifter, but only one or two thin coats sprayed gently from 1m+ away. you do not want to build this up. Let the black show through, and ideally dominate. You want a black sparkly carapace, not a metallic carapace.

The wings were base coated with a beige (VMC 340 Highl. Afrika Tank Crew) and then I tried wet blending some thinned sepia ink (VMC 72.091) in to that to get the tones of a real dung beetles wings. I didn’t do it well, but it has potential.

Fear the Gold Smoke Knight, for his stats are so far beyond everything else in the core box and they give you no warning.  You’ve outclassed everything else in the core box?  So what.  You still can’t reliable hurt this guy.  Look at his stats long before you fight him and plan accordingly.

Here’s the recipe I used on the gold, mostly through an airbrush:
Zenithal preshade
Base with Darkstar Bronze, allowing the preshade to do it’s think.
Enhance the preshade with an upside down zenithal coat of Darkstar Aged Copper.
Restore the base coat, leaving the Aged Copper in the shaded parts.

(All washes were either applied as a pin wash along recesses, or targeted to darker areas to bring the tone down. Don’t just slap all over without thinking)

Highlight each area with the base tone from the next lightest area. Blur this between regions
Higher highlights were done using just Caribbean Blue, and eventually Caribbean Blue mixed with VMC 70.918 Ivory (On armour kits because I forgot what I’d used before), or P3 Sickly Skin (on the bird)
