About the Project

My Orktober was uninspired, so a Nobvember was required. Nobvember passed far too quickly, so a Dakkacember was arranged swiftly. Gork and Mork have interceded, and now the Waaaaaagh is unimpeded.

Stormboyz kinda started, Snickrot joined in. Stormboyz kinda started, Snickrot joined in.

Boss Snickrot managed to jump the queue somehow. I started on the Stormboyz and ended up painting him instead.

Update 12 - Snickrot!

Seemed the Stormboyz would be more than I could cope with right now. It was a good choice, and I made some pretty good progress. He had been primed since the end of Dakkacember. Used a mix of contrast/quick paints and the odd Citadel layers, nothing too neat, still need to do some finishing, highlighting and basing work, but I’m pretty happy with it so far.

Stormboyz next!

Progess? Finally!

Spurned on by the constant chaos, I finally managed to make a mini! It’s been a pretty dry year, but it seems I’m lurching back into hobby life. The purchases to increase the horde have continued, but the hobbying progress has been non-existent, yet now the tide has swung.

I have since added to the combat patrol with the addition of two sets of Nobs, one set near completion and one stuck almost where they started the year. I came across some cheap part painted Stormboyz who have been prepped for a repaint, snagged a set of Squighog Boyz that have also seen some progress and even a Battlewagon pre-constructed and in need of some kitbashing but ready for primer.  The waaaagh grows.

I rebased the Storyboyz as they had been put on far too small a base and needed pennies for weight to stand. Whipping these up on the FDM printer has saved me from eBay a few times already. Then resprayed them with a grey primer ready for repaint.

The Nobs that I finished up with just needed shading and tufts. Not much to do other than small bits. 5 left.

Now onto the BigMech, the other Nobs, the Stormboyz, the Deffkilla Trike, and until now forgotten Boomdakkasnazwagon and a Battlewaggon. Waaaagh.

Aaaaaaah. Aaaaaaah.

Chasing the months has been fun, and no doubt has added to the progess thus far, but i have decided to throw of the shackels of the month Puns and accept this could be a protracted Waaaagh.

Waaaaaaagh!Waaaaaaagh!

It's been a turbulent start to the year, a struggle to get any hobbying in so far, but a desk full of prospects waiting for me to be feeling up to it. I have enjoyed my Orks thus far, quite the little Waaagh I've brewed up between Combat Patrol and eBay. Not much progress to report so far this year, but I'm sticking with my Orky Boyz, and there should be updates coming soon.

Update 9 - The Hairy Trikers

The Deffkilla Wartike proved not only to be deep in dust but also in hair, in preposterous amounts of hair. I tried brushing it off with some limited success, so I decided to go the whole hog and pry the model off its base, giving it a more thorough going over. Still, the hair persisted; some I think had been baked into the grainy primer that had been used by its first owner. I had also started to notice their severe lack of sprue excess removal and the pretty haphazard construction.

Second-hand models definitely come with their trade-offs, cheap but not always worth the hassle. I did what I could to remove the prue marks and made some kitbashes to cover some of the poorer construction. I used the compressor to blow off what would shift and then took the lighter gently to most of the surface to purge the last hangers on. It’s an Ork model, so perfection was never my end goal, just a little less fuzz.  I glued back on the loose parts and hit it with some black primer; it will cover up a few of the imperfections.

Update 9 - The Hairy Trikers

The final parts of the Ork Combat Patrol have arrived, hurrah! Between the Snazzwagon and Boss Snikrot, I have plenty to keep me going! Hopefully I can get a few more pieces completed this Dakkacember! Waaaaaghh!

More Grotmas Gifts from myself!

Firstly, a Thankyou to the Community and the Crew. It was great to have been included in the Awards for this year. It was very motivating, and it made for a fantastic extra Grotmas Gift 🙂 So Thankyou very much 🙂

Now Onto the Update!

Ebay had me in its grips this Dakkacember, so I’ve been awaiting these additions to the horde eagerly. I came across a Warboss in Mega Armour and an Ork Weirdboy, both from the same seller. The Warboss was unfinished, and the Weirdboy had a lovely classic paint job with a well-arranged base. Paid less than £18 for both with delivery, was a no-brainer.

The Warboss was just in need of some shading, a little highlighting and some neatening/roughing up. I don’t think they had quite reached the shading stage, so I applied the usual in the usual spots, and it was already starting to look a little more Orky and defined. They had started a bloodstained job on the big choppa, but it had a slightly too pink appearance, so I slapped on a little Citadel Blood Effect just to cover over some of that pink and added some more splatter. Not usually one for adding gore effects, but they had already started the job, so why not?

I applied some Coelia Greenshade to the Warboss to darken down his shade to bring it more in line with my horde, and the same in reverse to lighten/brighten up the Grot firing from his shoulders with some Ork Skin Speed Paint. A little layering over those, then the base, this one not so complete, so I gave it what has become standard for this project, a fine sand base.  Still some work to do on this guy, but happy with him as it stands.

The Weirdboy is something else altogether, very well finished and with a lovely classic style. It does, however, struggle to read well at a distance, especially his accompanying grot hangerson, who cascade down the back of the model. The basing arrangement is likewise very nice and perfectly acceptable. I’m reticent to make any changes at all as of yet, but I think I may have to rework the Grots and perhaps some of the other colours to give it a bit more table presence and a better read on the table.

Waaaaagh!Waaaaagh!

Also a Deffkilla Wartike 🙂 Very dusty and previously loved, but all there and just in need of some cleaning up and maybe a fresh spray of primer. My Snazzwagon from Combat Patrol still is a no-show, so I had to treat myself to something on wheels.

Something to get on with, huzzah!

Still working on the Nobs and Big Mech, and now plenty more for after 🙂

Nobs and a Big Mek, all together and awaiting the primer of progress!

My Grotmas gifts to myself arrived from the overlords at Waaaghland Games, and I’ve made good progress on getting them pieced together.

The Nobs box is stuffed with so many bits and weapon choices, I was a little overwhelmed. The combat patrol magazine options have been relatively slim on the build extras, so I wasn’t expecting so many in one box. If I had these leftover bits from the start, the first set of boyz could have been greatly improved. The Ammo Grunt’s face was tiny, so I swapped in a Grot’s head of slightly more comic proportions.

Big Mek was a fun build, fewer spare bits but decent options, a bit of an odd sculpt, but he imposes some bulk on the situation. Now to painting them, not all that convinced the Snazzwagon is going to turn up before Dakkacembers end, but fingers crossed.

Kommandos! Waaaagh!

These boyz caught my eye on the auction site and proved a little too cheap to ignore. The pictures online didn’t do them any justice. I was planning to strip them and start again, but they have proved less offensive to the eye than previously expected. Someone obviously made a good effort on getting them this far, so I think I might give them a bit of a touch-up job rather than a full repaint, and try to blend them in with the rest of the force. If I don’t like the outcome, they can always take a bath in Dettol. My first Kill Team, hopefully still usable in both games?

I have ordered some more additions to my little band of Orks (other than the Snazzwagon coming from Combat Patrol Magazine), an actual band of Nobs to make up for the severe lack of Nobs from Nobvember, and a Big Mech so that I have something to HQ, all set to arrive before the holidays. I have no idea about force formulation, likely an unplayable mash of units, but they should keep me busy throughout the holiday period.

So for now I will work on these bad boyz and await the arrival of the rest of my Dakkamas presents. Hurrah!
