More Line Infantry
I have been using a combination of Zenith undercoats, Speed Paints and some light layering to work through these.
Having a bit of time off work has helped, and I have been able to knock out a unit of these a day.
I’ll do my best to push on, finish all the British line infantry, then maybe take a break and do something different before facing the Highlanders. I’m not overly excited about painting tartan on 320 models.
That’s 640 of the little blighters done.
I do quite like how they look en masse, even if it doesn’t feel like I have even made a dent in all the stuff to do,
British Infantry
After a bit of back‑and‑forth, I decided to kick things off with some of the Waterloo stuff. There’s a huge amount packed into each box, so it’s definitely going to take a while to work through it all.
To keep things fresh, I’m planning to break this project up by working on smaller, completely different projects in between each stage. That way I don’t burn out too soon.
First on the bench: British line infantry.
With the first unit finished, I pushed on and knocked out a few more. I’m not aiming for strict historical accuracy here—more of a solid representation that looks good on the table.
I’ll be tackling smaller side projects in between each batch of this army, just to keep things moving and stop myself from getting bogged down.
I’m leaving all the basing until the end so everything stays consistent, and once that’s sorted, I’ll add the flags.
Where Do I Even Start
Want big armies? Go with small scale, they say, so much easier to paint, as you don’t have to do all the details. It will look really impressive on the tabletop.
Oh my.
Looking at this pile of plastic and resin is quite intimidating. Where do I even start with all this?
I could start with the American Civil War set; after all, it is the first boxed set I got. My wife bought it for me for my birthday when it came out. The colours of each regiment on the same side are all pretty much the same, but will that get tiring real fast?
The ancients one really interests me; after all, it has Elephants. What’s not to love about that? There are also some nice bright colours involved, and each side of the conflict has a unique feel to it.
Maybe the Waterloo stuff. Doing Waterloo is a bit of a bucket-list project for many gamers. Ranks of redcoats will sure look impressive, and there is a nice mix of infantry, artillery, and cavalry. But there are just so many of them.
I need to make a start on something that’s for sure, as I really want to get the Zulu stuff, but how can I justify that with all this sitting there undone?
I guess that the Ancient set is a bit different from the others in that it uses Hail Caesar, where the others all use Black Powder. So maybe if I can get one of the Black Powder ones done, I can convince myself that I deserve the Zulu one as a reward.
But which will be quicker and more fun to do?
