Fire & Flame! Legion Of The Damned Return To Warhammer 40,000

Dwarfs are properly returning to Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000 is graced by the return of some fan favourites. The Legion of the Damned, active on Armageddon during the 11th Edition launch, bring fire and flame to the battlefield in Kill Team.

The Legion of the Damned are one of the mysteries of the Warhammer 40,000 world that haven't been solved. Are they the remnants of the Fire Hawks or something else entirely? Either way, they appear when Space Marines are in great need and in this case, they are battling their way across the ruined landscapes of Armageddon in the fight against the Orks.

They make their way into a new Kill Team boxed set and that means an array of different Legion of the Damned miniatures with specific roles within the squad. The Sergeant above is a nice callback to Brother-Sergeant Attica Centurius and properly shows off how Heavy Metal Games Workshop has gone with the Legion of the Damned aesthetic.

The ghostly nature of the Legion of the Damned makes them a unique Kill Team to play that stands apart from other Space Marines. They must enhance their connection to the material plane over time to unlock their true potential. As the game goes on, they turn from slow and aetheric ghosts into fearsome combat monsters wreathed in fire.

The rules for the Legion of the Damned can be found within the new Kill Team: Armageddon Dossier, which will give you an insight into their lore as well as how to use them in your games of Kill Team. Games Workshop has also said that the Legion of the Damned will get full rules for Warhammer 40,000, so you'll be able to fold them into your armies as ghostly reinforcements.

I really like the design of the new Legion of the Damned and it goes to show that Games Workshop didn't have to do the whole Primaris thing to sell new Space Marines. Upscaled Space Marines in their traditional armour (like these fellows) would have been perfectly fine.

Their foe on the battlefields of Armageddon will be the Orks who have sent a team of Nobz (which we've seen previewed recently). These Nobz have been tasked with krumpin' these upstart Space Marines who think they're harder than the others.

Kill Team: Armageddon // Warhammer 40,000

The new Kill Team: Armageddon set will also come with a new set of missions that have you retrieving the casket from a downed Dreadnought and important information from the back of a wrecked Imperial tank. You'll also get loads of additional terrain and, of course, the Ork Nobz that your friend can take off you if you want the Legion of the Damned half of the set.

It makes sense that the Legion of the Damned make a return, especially with Games Workshop pushing the nostalgia angle during 11th Edition Warhammer 40,000. Could you see yourself picking up this set, or will you wait for their individual boxed release?
