Good video, however you forgot to hightlight another important point: he’s got ODD. Probably you try to simplify things but I think it’s just fine explaining that it gives -6 to BS to any unit trying to shoot at Achilles, which is HUGE.
Spitfire is the most common choice for him as it gives him a powerful middle ranged weapon with a high burst value. The heavy boarding shotgun is a more close ranged oriented weapon best suited for close spaces such as corridors and indoor scenarios.
By the way, the tittle needs a correction ALEPH’s intead of ALPEH’s 😉
Changed it! 🙂
Yeah, I forgot ODD. It’ll be a nice surprise for anyone who buys him. 😉
BoW Andy
I’m actually really interested in starting up infinity, and an Aleph Myrmidon force is what I’ve been looking into specifically. Great CC ability across the board, and Achilles is just brutal! Plus, who doesn’t want to have Brad Pitt leading their troops.
The entire Aleph faction comes from the Human Sphere book. 😉 Achilles really is a monster, both shooting and in close combat, he’s definitely a good model to look at if you want something tough without going up to a full TAG.
As a mainly Nomad player – guided missiles, it’s the only way to be sure…
Not everyone who see’s the video is going to know that the ALEPH are only in the Human Sphere book. Remember this video will be posted on YouTube. 😉
BoW Andy
He is a light TAG in pocket versions and costs as much.
Can deliver quite a shock at first games until someone understands his behaviour, Frenzy be him major flaw, but can withstand quite some punishment.
I prefer to refer to him as ‘my first tag’. A bit like the Stormraven is ‘my first thunderhawk’. Achilles is cool don’t get me wrong, and yes he’s in my Aleph collection BUT you know what I’ve never really found him too hard to deal with. I think people over state his abilities, yes he is a beast but you do pay for him.
would be cool if they made a Hector mini, reenact that all too famous duel but with futuristic weapons and armor. but cool mini and i would go the same rout and get 1 of him instead of the tag for cost reasons. sounds like a beast with that ODD ability though.
Proper tags have better(way better I might add) ranged weaponry however, so they’re less reliant on running and whacking the enemy on the head. Aleph’s TAG also has MSV so he can ignore smoke and camo modifiers too, so Achilles is by no means no-brainer.
Maybe nomads could have an attempt at making hector
I can’t wait to see the Patroclus model!
great vid very cool looking model and now i cant wait to get my highlander force i ordered (should come today according the the tracking) and put my wallace together
Freeeeeeeedom!!!!
Local games showed that Marut is the one should be feared. 2 EXP shots delivering 6 saves are a real pain.
I do not have a TAG yet either, but with This figure and 4 Myrmidons, I have a great Core force. Too bad most of my opponents take figures with Visor Lv 2
I would like to mention he also has the option for a Fusil Multi Rifle which from what i have seen is a slightly better option…
Great fig. The game sop I go to and I are trying to decide whether to start up infinity or MERCS for a skirmish game. I really like both. Any suggestions? Andy, I saw you had paint on your fingers. What are you working on?
Got the Myrmidon force plus Myrmidon officer. I like the idea the officer can shoot smoke grenades that no visor can penetrate.
Also, Achilles is better at killing tags in CC than most tags are at killing him in CC. This is thanks to the martial arts skill, a high PH, and an explosive CCW. Achilles will have a +3 bonus to his armor roll if the tag hits him but denies the tag the same luxury. Meaning that Achilles actually has a slightly better armor roll in CC than most tags, and forces 3 saves per hit as opposed to the 1 hit the tag may inflict on him.
However, some tags are geared for CC, and this will re balance or even tip the odds the other way. Additionally, most Tag’s have a good chance of shooting Achilles off the table, even with his ODD, and the opposite is not generally true.
If you want to gear Achilles for Tag hunting, then you will improve his versatility by giving him a stronger ranged attack option in the heavy shotgun. This is a better choice due to its AP ammo, and better in ARO where the otherwise higher burst value of the spitfire is irrelevant. So if a Tag comes looking for him, a nice damage 15 AP ARO shot awaits.
