tacgenius challenge…+1/-1….
what would I remove…..T55s
what would I add…….T72s
why….ignore the cheap cannon fodder….give me a horde of semi decent t72s and it’s a good force.
t55s just dilute the box….in my opinion….I would think 10, 11 or 13 or 16 T72s (3×3,2×5,3×4 ,3×5 +command tank) would be reminisceent of the 31xt34 box. just a horde advancing with no care about casualties. change my mind folks. Hinds…. always can use a spare to make the Ukranian Night Raider and Su17 Fitter a nice addition…
Agreed. I have a soviet army for TY and just need the T-72’s and Fitters. No need for more Hinds or the T-55’s.
that was quick this is the Ukrainian addition?
If you go with the “best” era for Team Yankee (the original mid 80s timeline), then the T-55s are still relevant. In this period the US was replacing the older M-60A3s with the 105mm armed Abrams (so you have a mix of tanks here just like the Soviets), The British were on the last version of the Chieftain, and Germany was still running with Leopard 1s (which was more like a Tank destroyer in doctrine than an MBT). So everything is a good match up. As you advance past this period then the “technology” starts the take over (thermal sighting et al) and it means the Soviet player has to buy about three times the number of models the US player has to (and still probably loses). The latest version of Team Yankee with all the latest units is NOT the game to play (IMHO), rather go back to those original mid 80s army lists (and units) for a far better game where the chances of the cold war going hot were probably closer than in any of the decades after the 80s.
I always thought Battlefront were clever in going with the mid 80s for Team Yankee, but I suppose it was due to player pressure and the tourney scene that made them advance the timeline (adding fantasy units like the Sgt York, because as we know Tourney players don’t give a jot about history (just about points values and “the meta”)). The latest NATO kit just outperforms the Soviet kit by a wide margin making your games rather one sided (and feature such things as tanks formed into close rank “lines” side by side as the NATO stuff doesn’t need to move (just grab the high ground and fire away).
more infantry and anti air capability …
ditch those froggies and get some cheap transport for the troops
How did I miss this unboxing, i have been waiting for this to appear. Now I can get to sorting a Polish force, once I get the box set that is.
