Modiphius Preview Two New Discworld Board Games Coming Soon
August 18, 2026 by brennon
Modiphius are celebrating Discworld this week with previews of two new board games that are going to be available for pre-order from the 20th of August (this week!). There is a reimplementation of a classic by Reiner Knizia and a new game by Dom Westerland.
Discworld: Readers Digested // Modiphius
We start with Discworld: Readers Digested, which is a reimagining of Reiner Knizia's Blue Moon City. You take on the role of Assistant Librarians tasked with restoring order to the Library of the Unseen University, where things have gone horribly wrong during Reading Week. Designed for two to four players, you will move through different locations in the Library, reshelving books and collecting cards.

These cards can then be spent for extra actions like strengthening your book collection, moving more easily through L-Space, and rescuing Faculty Members, which gives you bananas. Those bananas can then be exchanged with the Librarian* for extra help!
Discworld: Readers Digested - Deluxe Components // Modiphius
When you complete sections on your own or together with other players, you'll earn more cards, bananas and rescue students to your side. When you have enough students, you then just need to make it to the exit! It seems like a good reimplementation of an older game with a new theme that suits the mechanics of the original Blue Moon City.
Readers Digested will have a standard version but there will also be a deluxe version (see above) which will include upgraded components and rules for solo play. Pre-orders will also include a bonus game tile for you to slot into your game experience.
Kill Sam Vimes
The second game is a competitive strategy game from Dom Westerland called Kill Sam Vimes. You take on the role of trainee assassins from the guild who have been tasked with the impossible. Kill Sam Vimes.
Kill Sam Vimes // Modiphius
The Assassins' Guild has sent out its most promising apprentices to see if they can get close enough to Kill Sam Vimes. He's too important to actually kill but it doesn't stop them from trying. Two to four players will control a house of apprentice assassins and use their multi-action cards to move through Ankh-Morpork, avoiding the traps that Vimes has left for you. You will need to outscore your rivals and look great whilst doing it. You might not be able to kill Vimes but at least you'll fail in style*.
Kill Sam Vimes - Components // Modiphius
There are no deluxe components for this game but if you pre-order, you get a promotional pack of four additional assassin cards which come with their own unique special abilities. It certainly looks like a fun little game and one that I hope has plenty of opportunities for backstabbing and tomfoolery.
As well as being available to pre-order from Modiphius, both games will also be available to pre-order via Gamefound Express at a later date. Are you a Discworld fan seeking some more tabletop fun to dive into?
Which of these two board games would you pick up?
