Community Spotlight: Chaos Warriors, Little Chapels & Mechanicus!

Warriors of Chaos by horus500

We start off with a bunch of miniatures which are being returned to square bases by horus500. They have got a lot of Warhammer Age of Sigmar miniatures in their collection and since they don't actually play the game that often, they are instead getting refactored into Warhammer: The Old World!

The much bigger bases in Warhammer: The Old World mean that the more dynamic miniatures from The Mortal Realms can fit really nicely into the battles taking place across The Old World. You can see that with the Khorne Champions above, which are now great leaders for units or characters in their own right. I also like the painting of the miniatures themselves. I really like painting Khorne miniatures but sometimes it can become a little tiring having to work through all that flesh and trim!

Some of the other elite elements of the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Khorne force have made their way into a god-specific unit of Chaos Warriors with the appropriate mark. I think they look great, especially with less of the red and the addition of the white armour with silver accents. It works really nicely and they rank up well too!

A few more miniatures for The Old World also joined the collection in the form of these classic Beastmen. They had a little stint in The Mortal Realms but were then dragged back through a portal to The Old World so that the ranges could be split between the two Fantasy games. I still think the classic Gor is an impressive miniature and great fun to paint. They also make excellent abhumans for your Warhammer 40,000-focused games. Not that I've been doing that a lot...

15mm Italian Chapel by redvers

Next up, we're getting Historical and venturing into the realm of 15mm scale miniatures with an Italian Chapel terrain build. redvers got their hands on a simple MDF Italian Chapel but wanted to jazz it up a bit more.

This was a cheap MDF chapel from someone on eBay and whilst it was nice, it needed something a bit extra to make it look more than a boring ol' box. So, redvers set about upgrading this and giving it some extra love. The chapel got a new roof and redvers also took the extra time to weather the chapel and make it feel like it has been around for a while, situating it in a larger piece of terrain rather than simply feeling plonked onto the board.

The chapel also got some impressive stained glass windows!

The stained glass windows were done using little pieces of plastic from various containers which were then marked in black to create the different segments of glass. The colours then came courtesy of nail varnish from their daughter's bedroom. I think it looks great and gets across the bright colours that you'd expect from a stained glass window, especially one lit by the Italian sun.

As you can see, the final look of the chapel has transformed from that simple MDF box.

redvers took the time to expand out the place where the chapel was situated with a full graveyard and walls around it as well as that nifty path. All of the progress on this has been detailed as part of the build process in the project and I like that there are multiple access points here alongside the cover offered by the walls. Perfect for infantry. A tank can happily sit on the front lawn as well. A great piece that should fit into the Italian campaigns that redvers is playing out on the tabletop.

Mechanicus Battleclade by darkdanegan

Last but not least, we're checking out what darkdanegan has been working on as they take a trip into the world of Kill Team. darkdanegan wants to eventually build up a force for the Adeptus Mechanicus from Mechanicus II, the video game, but wanted to see if they'd like the process first by painting up the Adeptus Mechanicus Battleclade from Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team.

darkdanegan used the Warpaints range to paint up these miniatures in a pretty typical paint scheme for the Adeptus Mechanicus, focusing on those bright reds which then contrast against the metallic appendages and other bionic components. The miniatures were also painted in that standard way, going from a basecoat through to a wash and then that highlight layer. I think they look awesome.

I like that darkdanegan also changed up their bases and went for the Void War range, which fits this Battleclade into battles that might be taking place deep within Adeptus Mechanicus facilities or in space aboard one of the titanic vessels of the Imperium, floating through space. The lighter colour of the bases also helps to lift the miniatures and turn the spotlight on them.

I think these look brilliant and as someone who has recently been submerging myself in the world of Warhammer 40,000 through video games and the tabletop, it was awesome to see someone working through their Mechanicus collection. I hope that this has done enough to spur darkdanegan to explore the faction in more detail with additional miniatures!
