Happy Sunday CoGs, OTTers and Backstagers!
“My thumbs have gone weird” withnail and I ?
Are you the farmer? We’re not from London
I’ve gone on holiday by mistake, literally 😀
Happy Sunday! I actually agree with all three of your wargame wishes, and for me I went down more of the Gerry route of something that has never existed. And that is The Matrix on the tabletop. Yes, Crooked Dice do a set of 4 “Node Agent” minis (Neo, Trinity, Morpheus and Smith), but really want the full range. The Twins, Merovingian, the Nebuchadnezzar crew etc etc. Oh and lots of different Smith poses to do the one vs many scenes when Smith replicated himself. I have so many ideas for games and scenarios – what I need is someone to do all the minis!
(if this does actually exist in 1s and 0s land somewhere please do let me know!!)

Thanks – ah yes the 54mm figurines. A bit static but could be scaled down and used. They’ve actually fleshed that range out quite a bit since I last saw it. Shame they didn’t create some new poses while they were at it!
Thanks for the Button. Really love that Castle in the Sky Diorama.
Would love to see the 2000AD series Bad Company as a wargame. Other 2000AD things have been done, but I am hanging out for some Krool and Kano.
I would really love to see a Degenesis influenced miniature skirmish game, a la Malifaux.
Imagine how amazing the rule book and stat cards would be.
And Ben stood upon his soapbox and proclaimed over the masses a mighty rant. It was such that the heavens shook and the earth trembled from the power of the heart beating within his breast. The editing brought forth such an epic with its slow pan and background music that it could only be matched by such great films as The Ten Commandments, Cleopatra and Ben Hur.
With that we now understand why John was so quiet this time around and Gerry straightforward in his desire.
I’d say I’d like to have the IKEA Detolf at its old price again that I might be able to display my figures with ease. Pricing out jewelry display cabinets is the closest thing and its insane.
ooh! Thanks for the Button. I promise I have another hero primed and ready to go, I’ve just been bogged down with work, study and other things.
On my wishlist would be minis or ultimately a game for Appleseed. I do like Ghost in the Shell, but always preferred Appleseed and I’m hoping we see something from Mantic in the not too distant future.

Caaaaaaaaake!
What do I miss in wargaming. Since the hosts have been talking about products I find myself in a different position. I miss a FLGS. Simple as that. We do have one Warhammer store and two stores that sell some miniature stuff but none of them is a FLGS that has a table to sit at, play some games and maybe even have a tournament of sorts. We had two of those in the past. One was closed down after the owners wife got a high paying job elsewhere and the owner just closed shop and that was that. The other was the shop of my friend with whom I’m still playing miniature games. But he closed shop during covid mainly because it didn’t work out financially.
So all I have is a place to buy stuff and a Warhammer store. The next FLGS is so far away that “local” is not part of the definition any more.
Now of to the kitchen, preparing dinner.
I never had one so I can’t miss it
It’s XLBS time everyone 👍 👌
If Rome is ever made you mean Ben 🤔🤷
Blind you miss the sci-fi stuff the UMBRA figures could work for equilibrium troops an the tank looks like the ground car in the Galactica series
ooh … can you imagine an Osprey books like series, but for Sci Fi ?
With blueprints as well as dozens of images for uniforms and vehicles.
“Here’s the 9th Valhallan regiment at the battle of Whatevs. This is what their officers and cooks looked like …”
There are so few games that have proper art that makes you want to play.
btw: check out Orken by SixMoreVodka if you can.
It is more like a fantasy setting and it is a bit more stylistic, but the art is amazeballs.
Is that Gerry in the Boondock Saint’s ???? 🤔
Look for a print off the chararters and see if John will make them for you Gerry 👌👌
The film was named Laputa Castle in the sky when it first came out then they changed the name of the film
Great stuff guy’s
I’d love an official range for Dune. I’ve got the SAND range (definitely not the new Dune films) and rules which are great for the shoebox skirmish level. I want the epic level of combat we used to get in the old Dune II RTS game. Nothing really close in the market at the moment, not even in 1s and 0s. One day.
I would bring back the hobby sections that used to be prevalent in wargame rules books. I recently bought Pillage! which has one and honestly, it’s amazing. Anything that teaches people how to make scenics from scratch, or basic painting and basing tips.
I think “unity” is probably the main one.
When I first started wargaming (back in the 80s) we had 25mm (for the rich wargamer), 15mm (this was the main scale for most historicals prior to WW2), 20mm for WW2 (due to the availability of plastic kits) and 6mm for WW2 and moderns, Plus America had this weird scale called 10mm. 15mm back in the day was THE scale, cheaper than 25mm and easier to paint detail than with 6mm. Now it’s heavily fallen out of favour for some reason, probably due the the availability of cheaper 25mm plastics that dominate the market these days.
Now we have 2mm/3mm/6mm/10mm/12mm/12.5mm (Warlord)/15mm/20mm/25mm/32mm (Heroic 25mm).
It’s a similar thing with the rules, back in the 80s we probably had about 3 sets of rules per period with one set usually being the most popular one. WRG rules for ancients and dark ages for example.
But we truly live in the “golden age” of the hobby, everything is available in every scale (even more so with the introduction of 3D printing). This make things a LOT harder when trying to find opponents. You usually can find an opponent for a period, but chances are they’ve got armies in a different scale.
Then comes the popularity of “Skirmish” games for nearly every historical period (and the decline in popularity of “rank and flank” wargames rules). Skirmish games used to be more of a fringe period where gamers would take singularly based figures (for casualty removal) from their rank and flank armies to enjoy a quick game down at the club (where there wasn’t usually the time for a large rank and flank wargame). Now skirmish games are probably more popular than rank and flank and wargamers only have forces set up for these.
All this freedom of choice in scale and rules has sort of fragmented the community into smaller and smaller communities. Now one thing GW and Warlord (although I’m not a fan of their rules systems) has bought to the table is a sizable playerbase. For gamers who play these games it’s a lot easier to find opponents out in the wild.
There’s probably no way to reverse things back to where there was usually just the one scale wargamers used for each period and one set of rules/basing system that tended to dominate things. Although I enjoy the freedom that our current golden age of the hobby has given us with many, many fine figures and rules to choose from. I do miss the days when finding opponents was a LOT more easier than things are today.
Well said
