The year was 1995… that’s 31 years ago. The original Vyper came out. What a kit! And now, there’s going to be a new one. Imagine 31 years of a kit holding up.

Just goes to show that a good design rarely ages bad. I wonder how much “more” this one will cost XD
Well it does look like it comes with far more options, but it’s only a Vyper. Can’t be that much more.
Some of the new stuff that GW announced does look dead sexy.
It just sucks that the rules won’t match that 🙁
I mean … we’re getting Eldar Corsairs.
I only remember them being a thing in Rogue Trader.
(I’m sure someone will point out that corsairs were in an Eldar codex somewhere between 2nd and 8th edition. I chose not to believa that as they definitely were not a thing when the Aspect warriors were introduced)
Anyways … now we need a good solid set of rules that makes the Eldar actually fun and alien.
I’m sure they will be fun. Fun is what you make it. If “win at all costs” is your fun, then you do that! I like nicely painted armies and my fun is throwing dice. I can’t even remember the last time I “won” a game. Still have lots of fun. So did my opponents!
I’m not talking about ‘playing to win’
Why would Eldar field regular troops when they got these super elite aspect warriors and their version of dreadnought class heavies ?
Aspect warriors themselves are a mixed bag. Either too specialised or in a competing niche.
Never mind the convoluted special rules that GW thinks it needs to make things work.
The new viper is more or less how GW has treated any faction that isn’t spacemarine. They get one new toy and they have to be wait another decade to get something substantial whereas the spacemarines have had several new squad variants as well new vehicles.
Can the rules even handle a pure hit&run army filled with glass cannons ?
Are the standard guardians a thing or have they been abandoned in favour of the hot new toy ?
Is that new corsair focussed force something that is a viable army at all ? The GW army boxes often feel like a bunch of interesting units thrown together to make a sale.
A captain on foot when the rest of the force is very mobile feels wrong. It’s like the white scars all over again.
I doubt GW will ever do an Eldar codex that isn’t a set of flavourless craftworld, because that’s how they’ve the Ork clans when I last looked at them (remember when mad boyz were a thing or how the various clans oozed theme ?).
Will there be a reason to pick the winged troops over the swooping hawks that isn’t pure fluff-based ?
As interesting as the models are there is a serious lack of options to expand upon this force and keep it thematic. To say nothing of possible lore reasons as to why they may not even ally with regular craftworlds.
It kind of reminds me how they introduced the primitive orks in 40k as a sort of wannabe snakebites, which made me wonder if we were going to see similar treatment for the other clans (I’d love to see the Bloodaxes return and work with Imperial Guard … ).
It sucks to see such cool models and to know that they won’t ever be used in a meaningful way within their faction codex. At best it’s going to be two pages of stat lines that lack a soul.
