I had it all planned; I used to live on a narrowboat (best year or so ever!) then moved to Brighton. I still have family “Up North” and regularly go back to visit. The drive is a six/seven hour nightmare sometimes, so I thought if we had a canal boat up north, we’d have something to look forward to at the end of the drive and I could spend a few days in the peace and quiet with no TV, no internet, and a just a box of paints and a few minis.
I was going to start a Youtube channel – thecanalboatpainter – and vlog my miniature painting progress, each time we moored up as we travelled around the canal network. It was going to be brilliant.
But it’s going to have to wait until next year. So I’ve got a few hundred quid going spare (hell, I’m not going to spank thousands of pounds, I still want to buy a boat – just not yet, a few months before winter sets in!) and I thought I might try a few painting courses.
The Battle Brush Studios Essentials course looks interesting. Just wondered if anyone has been on this course and, if so, do you have any comments? I did think about buying a load of tutorial videos, but I just feel that being in a room with other painters, using the same paints and materials (rather than just looking at them on the screen) might actually help improve my rather mediocre painting skills.
Basically, I’m looking at £125 for two days and asking “is it worth it”?
Well you could talk to Gerad Boom from https://www.shiftinglands.com/
He does great workshops for the Proxxon Hotwire cutter and does some amazing stuff. And you can “rent” him for a weekend course if you get 10’ish buddys together and pay him 😉

And no, I don’t get any commision
