We had visit to the only SS concentration camp outside of Germany with folk from work :

It’s very impressive to see this up close and personal.
Hearing some of the stuff that has happened there is quite something.
Fun fact : it’s located next to a modern prison complex that is home to the biggest criminals.
That’s dark, @limburger
I haven’t been to any of the camps during my Europe trips. I have been to many Canadian cemeteries, though. In 2016, I walked 100km from Juno Beach to Falaise, and followed the route of ‘B’ Sqn, The Fort Garry Horse, my regiment.
@grantinvanman
It sure is, but it is worth keeping the memories of places like this alive as a reminder to not do that again.
I can’t even begin to imagine how Westerbork, Auschwitz and others must feel like …
Completely agree, @limburger !
The tearing down of statues, removing history, only means it will be forgotten. They should be left, with a plaque explaining why it’s wrong in today’s light.
The Holocaust was obviously NEVER right. I fear the erasure of history, though.
There was a lot of ancient history destroyed when ISIS was active.
With the way things are going in the USA a lot of history is getting erased already either thru sheer stupidity or malice (or both).Wether it’s the history of the Tuskagee (sp?) airmen or the various soldiers of colour that happened to have been awarded medals. We know they’ve erased and restored a few of those pages on the official sites, because folk noticed it and raised hell. I’m pretty sure the damage is even worse than we as outsiders know.
The amount of damage the orange cheeto and his cronies are doing has to be part of the plan to overwhelm folks to the point that they stop resisting and just let whatever hairbrained scheme they have happen.
It’s not easy when the opposing side also tells you that you’re racist/nazi because there’s enough idiots out there that want to revive those dark times.
It sucks that when you happen to pick the ‘bad guys’ in a historical setting there’s a lot of explaining to do to the ignorant idiots out there (as evidenced by a certain youtuber … ).
I want my Afrika Korps with the correct iconography. And if I were to do American Civil War then I will have my Confederate Flags on display on those units.(period)
I’m not censoring history just because of the idiots out there.
I’ve seen ‘The Wave’ which was a movie based on a social experiment a teacher in the USA did to show how Nazism came to be.
To see it unfold again at a national scale is terrifying.

New thread! Sorry for being late. Brainrott is setting in.
Fully agree, @limburger
History is history – learn from it, or be doomed to repeat it.
