Graal Miniatures are on Kickstarter right now with an awesome campaign that is looking to bring to life a range of resin 28/32mm scale Historical wargaming figures fit for the Roman Republic and Marius' Mules.

Quintus Catulus - Graal Miniatures

Quintus Catulus // Graal Miniatures

These heroic 28mm scale miniatures (so think 32mm) have been designed for games like SAGA and represent the Roman Republic during one of its most turbulent times. This force, Marius' Mules, represents Romans raised by Caius Marius to combat threats to the Roman Empire.

Legionaries Command - Graal Miniatures

Legionaries Command // Graal Miniatures

This was the introduction of a new generation of professional soldiers with better discipline, better equipment and tactics. These grizzled, hardened legionaries became known as Marius' Mules, securing the future of the Roman Republic and changing the way Rome fought on the battlefield.

The range of miniatures from Graal, which you're seeing here, is all created by digital sculptor Quentin Renaud, who has a hand in the entire process from beginning to end. The designs are then going to be printed in resin and packaged up after stringent checks so that only the best Roman miniatures make it to your tabletop.

Ballista - Graal Miniatures

Ballista // Graal Miniatures

The miniatures that you see here, especially the infantry and the cavalry, are designed as modular kits so you can switch up poses throughout your army. Graal Miniatures wanted to make sure that you created a dynamic-looking army for the tabletop rather than a legion of clones.

To that end, you will be able to change around heads, arms, weapons, shields and other equipment on the Roman troops that you get from this campaign. Graal Miniatures has also talked about lots of research going into this collection so that they can make the best Romans they can.

Pledge Options

There are lots of pledge options for you to choose from but I thought I should highlight just a few that would be worth taking a peek at. The Recruit Pledge is a good starting point.

The Recruit Pledge - Graal Miniatures

The Recruit - Pledge // Graal Miniatures

This comes with one Warlord for your Romans in the form of the Republican Tribune alongside a Vexillarius and then a unit of fifteen Republican Roman Legionaries. This could be a good way for you to start out in the Republic era and build a nice set of Romans for skirmish-level games.

If you'd like to go to the entirely other end of the scale and get a massive amount of Romans, then there is also this pledge.

Marius Mules Pledge - Graal Miniatures

Marius' Mules - Pledge // Graal Miniatures

This comes with all of the named and unnamed heroes for your army alongside command sets, legionaries, equites and also the ballista for when you want to knock down something big. This should have you sorted for mega games of SAGA or Clash of Spears and plenty of other Historical wargames besides.

If you're just looking to do some painting, then you might want to get a look at the Heroes of Rome.

This would be an excellent option for someone who wants to paint a range of figures in different styles to represent the iconic characters from the period. Gaius Norbanus looks suitably epic. This might even end up being the way that you start learning about the history of the Republic and these different individuals.

Make sure to dive in and check out more from the Kickstarter campaign if this has interested you. There are loads of Stretch Goals and more being slotted into the mix for this campaign so it's by no means just what you see here!

Could the Roman Republic tempt you?
