House Escher Miniatures & Journal Lead New Edition Of Necromunda
August 4, 2026 by brennon
With the new Necromunda Core Set available to pre-order, Games Workshop have been setting out its plans for what comes next to support the new edition. House Escher are first out of the blocks with new miniatures and an expansion book, giving you more options for the House of Blades.
Escher Gang Queen & Phyrr Cat // Necromunda
We start with some great character miniatures for Escher, which come in plastic, marking Games Workshop's step away from a lot of the Forge World resin range that supported the last edition of the game. This set comes with plenty of components to make Escher Matriarchs with a variety of different weapons.

You'll find options for power axes, plasma weaponry, deadly needle weaponry that House Escher is known for and more. This means some great ways to expand the opening salvo of options from Games Workshop, either from the Core Set or perhaps one of the big gang boxes which give you the core of your collection in Necromunda.

I appreciate that the new Escher for this edition are a little less on the spindly side of things. There's a bit more substance to them, which is going to make assembling and painting them a lot easier. Essentially, the set gives you enough to build a Gang Queen and a set of five Gang Matriarchs alongside their snarling Phyrr Cat. But, as anyone who plays Necromunda knows, all of these components and miniatures can be used to make whatever you need for your gang.

These new miniatures can be used with the standard House Gang rules found within the main books for Necromunda that went up for pre-order but you will also find more options presented within the new Underhive Journal, Escher - The House of Blades.
Underhive Journal: Escher - The House of Blades // Necromunda
Whilst not required to run Escher in your games of Necromunda, the new Journal (familiar to folks who play Warhammer: The Horus Heresy, Warhammer: The Old World or Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game) introduces some more ways to play Escher with specialised gangs like the Wyld Hunt and the Chymist Cult. These alternative lists give Escher a unique spin and open up different rosters and equipment lists that, whilst restricted, are specialised to each style of Escher gang.

You will also find gang-specific content for use in campaigns. This means new territory options for you to slot into play with your friends, side jobs themed to Eschers (adding to those in the main rules) and a bunch of new gang tactics.
One of the nice things about Necromunda is that it's a game very often played by groups of friends who aren't interested in " the meta". That means any expansions and such for the game aren't seen as MUST-HAVE commodities for you to stay up to date with everyone else. I've yet to have a look inside the new edition, but if Games Workshop have done their job right (which in the case of a lot of the specialist games, they have), it should be perfectly fine for a gang without a Journal to have as much fun as one running from the base books.
A major plus is that these Journals are always paperback and that means cheaper than the big books you had in the last edition. They were nice but this is much more gamer-friendly!
Could you be tempted to snap this up for House Escher?

The 80ies called: they have your delivery of hair spray ready.
I bought Necromunda a few years ago and Dark Uprising mainly for the terrain. I hate that GW releases the same game every few years with a ‘bug fix’ and then reprints all the books again.
Other companies like TT Combat with Carnevale just put the cards online rather than milking the ‘cash cow’ until the udders drop off.
I’ve not bought anything GW in years. My last waste of money was Cursed City.
Like the new “journal” format, will be adding this to my new edition acquisition.
Someone please tell me why releasing 50 page magazines for every gang after the recent re-release of the rules is a good thing ?
I can understand a rule refresh with a new rulebook after publishing a gazillion add-on booklets, but this is just taking the piss and not fixing the problem the game has had since it was re-released.
It isn’t if you are a gamer. It is if you are a share holder. One of the prime reasons I haven’t played the revamped Necromunda
Well that and the fact every playthrough I have seen has done wonders for helping tackle insomnia
Because money
Well that didn’t take them long 🙁
But rules aside for now looking at the sculpts I’m not a fan. The heads/faces look more like Goliath offerings than Escher (being a bit oversized). The “footwear” looks designed to break ankles than to ensure a better grip, and the posing looks either static or just unbalanced. I know GW can do better than this, and I can only assume that some of their newer/more junior sculptors (armed with the latest CAD software of course) were let loose here. The Escher signature hair is extremely over done (to the point of being just ridiculous), with earlier sculpts being just more artistic (even although they were designed with that horrid separate face and skull that the N17 Escher and Goliaths were made with).
On the rules front, how can they claim the new edition “steamlines and simplifies” the old rules and then release MOAR additional rules (presumably this means there’s going to be at least one new book for each gang). Perhaps the tagline should have been “rearranges and increases” on the old editions. The old editions of the “House of…” books were about 25 pages of actual rules with the rest being about 50% artwork and 50% reprinted content (timelines, lore) from the older books.
With the news here for future releases, it seems GW are blind to the primary complaints from the N19/N23 editions from the players (who perhaps just wanted the old N95 level of complexity and content and having just three rulebooks to reference again). But already that promise seems to have gone out the window, and the idea of a playable amount of content is redundant and we’re back to the same old pattern of regurgitated content from GW again. My confidence in the future of GW rules for Necromunda is gone.
But lesson learned and no new rules for me, I might go back to the N95 rules and just buy the new minis as they come out (although GW will have to do better on this). I’ve dropped probably over a grand in keeping up with the rules and cards over the last decade, but now looking back even 100 quid on rules for ANY system is simply WAY too much. I’ve let myself get grabbed by FOMO and getting locked in to a “completionism” mentality on keeping up to date with ALL the rules. And that’s my fault, I just need to be rational and take a step back (although in my case that’s probably multiple steps back 😀 ).
