About the Project
I have decided to help keep my motivation, to do a weekly update of what I have been doing. This will hopefully stave off the fatigue of the never ending pile of potential, and also reassure me that I am sort of making progress. The project will have a range of miniatures from different genres such as kingdom death monster, burrows and badgers, moonstone, marvel crisis protocol, Star Wars shatterpoint and everything in between. The last count was about 850 miniatures, that need to be painted. Normally they are then stored away but at least they will be completed.

Week 55
8 more Burrows and Badgers minis complete this week (except for the basing but that is being done in bulk so no worries) which means the guard is done.
Next up is the gang members which I want complete by the end of next week. I will follow the same plan as the guard and paint their outfits – this time using similar colours on each but not as regimented as the guard models.
So 8 more models isn’t too bad. Except that because of Ontabletop I have now ordered 5 more moonstone models which despite the release date are already on their way.
I am also expecting 3 blood bowl miniatures with the new releases coming out soon.
That would put me back to square 1 except there is also the new Burrows and Badgers kickstarter coming soon. Sigh.
Week 54
Burrows and badgers is still on the painting desk. This time it is the city guard.
The plan was to paint the uniforms (for uniformity) for all the models and then worry about the creature inside afterwards.
The image is of the guard together with the uniform being mostly painted. If I have 9 models about 70% completed does that count as 6 whole models.
Anyway the colour scheme is quite dark as I have gone for a navy cloak and grey uniform. The colours were simply the GW colour triads of base, layer, highlight
Navy: Kantor blue, hoeth blue
Grey: mechanicus standard grey, dawnstone, adminstratum grey
I expect to get the models mostly completed by next weekend.
Slight issue with model numbers as I may have added three more to the pile after buying 3 more MCP models.
Still at least I my numbers are still going in the right direction.
Week 53 or Year 2 week 1
So 9•miniatures this week.
*sort of
The remaining high elf team is now finished as the 6 positional players have been completed. The colour scheme is fine and painted alright but the skin is awful. I think that is what is making me dislike these models.
The team in full:
Up next is some burrows and badgers. I have a few outstanding mins as can be seen in the image below:
So I started off with the smallest of the miniatures and went for the shrews. The three were a noble, a gang member, and a Victorian lady.
The bases will be sorted when all the model painting is done. Not sure what to do as a lot of these models are urban based but may just keep the simple scheme I used for the previous models. Will see what I feel like when I get to it, fortunately that does seem a like a problem for future me.
The next set will be the watch so despite my comments about hating batch painting, I am going to paint the clothing and equipment together, then sort out the flesh and fur sparely.
As an aside I have started writing the numbers on the bottom of the bases. This will help me categorise them later and if I ever play a game, let me easier create a warband.
The coming year
I do expect to do less in the next year as I am hating painting batches of models.
However, I still have to Warhammer quest boxes to paint, the 30k box from the other year, and the new epic with the stupid name I can’t be arsed to type. If any of those can be completed it will help with the numbers.
My 5 aims are as follows:
1. Keep on top of Blood Bowl. Although I have struggled with the last sets of teams, it is one of the things that is normally done.
2. Finish Burrows and Badgers. Only 30 or so to go, so unless there are any further purchases, I should be able to get that marked off as done.
3. Continue working through Moonstone. This is a range that I will not be to bothered if it grows as I like painting the mini’s. Although I have most, I will look to complete all the factions.
4. Star Wars Shatterpoint & Marvel Crisis Protocol (or SW Crisis Protocol & Marcel Shatterpoint if you prefer). Finish off the Marvel stuff and start the Star Wars stuff. I somehow have around 100 SW miniatures and none have been primed let alone painted.
5. Most important is to not feel pressured. This is allegedly for fun & relaxation, so don’t worry about it.
When recording the weeks, I want to spend a little extra time to list the method and the paints used. Looking back, I sometimes have no idea how I did certain things and can’t recreate it.
Week 52
Only 6 miniatures completed. All from my High elf team.
The other 6 are getting there and should be completed this week or the next.
I have really disliked painting these models. If it wasn’t for the fact I have every other GW team I would have probably binned them off. On the plus side the positional played have a bit more details so hopefully they will turn out better
I also dislike the skintone that was used. I tried to copy the GW method but it just looks shite.
On the plus side to tried out a paint pen to write the numbers on the bases. I did also try it on the grass but it wasn’t a success.
End of year summary.
So this project has been going on for over a year.
Going through the entries it looks as though I have completed 228 miniatures. There is still well over 800 left to do. So, if I can stop buying miniatures (yeah right) I should be realistically all caught up sometime in 2030 – assuming the world last that long.
The breakdown is as follows:
Kingdom Death monster – 16
Moonstone – 31
Miscellaneous – 5
40k – 69
Burrows and Badgers – 46
Bloodbowl – 46 – includes 6 High elves completed this week.
Marvel Crisis Protocol – 1. Also fixed a damage model that doesn’t count.
Bushido – 4
Warhammer – 10
So could have been worse, could have been better but a decent 12 month effort.
My spreadsheet overview currently looks like this:
As it is technically higher than I started with last July, I have simplified the monthly summaries to show how much stuff is completed and how much stuff has been purchased.
Thanks to those people who have been ticking my boxes and the odd comment that has been left
Week 51
Not too much done this week.
I have started the high elf blood bowl team but not feeling it. So may just put it back and do another single figure instead. Will try and persevere but will see.
next week will be a year so think I may spend some time to categorise what has actually been completed.
Week 50
The most recent project has now been completed so 10 more off the list.
Not a massive Chaos fan but these miniatures were alright. Kept the paint job simple as it is too hot to paint. Whilst I don’t mind getting a sweat on at the gym I resent sweating and painting at the same time. It just seems wrong.
Overall I like how these turned out. I should highlight the bronze more but I am liking the dullish contrast with the brighter steel colour. With the recent previews of the chaos mounted knights from GW, I may consider picking some of those up after release. Alternatively, I could just paint something else from my collection first such as my high elf blood bowl team.
Not sure how much I will be able to get done in the next week or 2 but we shall see. I may just start doing a cataloguing project to record all of my stuff to make sure that I don’t pick up any duplicates when I forget that I have already have a copy waiting for painting. But, who would do that……..?
