New Look Space Marine Infantry For 11th Edition Warhammer 40,000

Hot off the back of a crashed Thunderhawk Dropship, Games Workshop has properly revealed the new multi-part plastic Space Marines that will be coming alongside the launch of the 11th Edition Codex for Warhammer 40,000.
New Space Marine Intercessors // Warhammer 40,000
We start with the new, humble Intercessor Space Marines that will form the basis of your Space Marine armies. The new set is designed so that you've got plenty of customisation options and this is enhanced by the fact that all ten Space Marines can use any of the arms in the kit. The standard Bolt Rifle is back alongside two with the auxiliary grenade launcher.

You'll also find different options for the Space Marines holding the weapons. There are different one-handed versions, arms pointing and holding accessories as well as options for a chainsword, power sword or power fist for your Sergeant.

The set will also carry on the approach from the Armageddon boxed set in that you are going to find a variety of older helmets and armour parts in the set. This gives you the new-look Space Marine Intercessors in their Mk X Tacticus armour but with a flavour of the old school in the design for good measure.

It's somewhat unfortunate that such a good set of Space Marines are just two steps away from being a Tactical Squad of old. You're just missing someone with a flamer and someone with a missile launcher and you're spot on for a classic Space Marine squad. They've even brought back the classic back banner!
I feel like it's a shame that Games Workshop didn't take this opportunity to turn the regular Intercessor into a new and upgraded Tactical Squad for the new edition. The purpose of those squads was that they could deal with whatever came their way. A horde of enemies? Unleash the flamer. A vehicle rumbling into view. Fire the missile launcher! It would still have been within the elite wheelhouse of the Space Marines and would have bridged a bit of a gap between the old and the new.
I guess, if I were being cynical, that it's because they want you to buy a full squad of something else to kill hordes and the same for vehicles. I suppose it's very Horus Heresy in design, harking back to the Legions, but I think folks will still pine for the days of Wathe Tactical Marine.
New Vanguard Veterans
Another of the new squads coming your way with the new Codex is the multi-part plastic Vanguard Veterans with their Jump Packs. Again, these were first (re)featured in the Armageddon boxed set.

These Vanguard Veterans move away from the push-fit options presented in the Armageddon boxed set and instead bring various options, in both weapons and poses, for you to use when crafting your new Space Marine force on the tabletop.

The set comes with several weapon options for you to pick from, including swords and axes of the powered variety alongside weaponry for the sergeant in the form of relic weapons, thunder hammers and power fists. You can also rock plastic pistols if you want to melt some faces (Your own. You will roll a one).

I think it helps that the multi-part kit also features Vanguard Veterans that appear a little more veteran. They have more adornment and accessories as well as older equipment that they've kept from their glory days. If you are so inclined, the Vanguard Veterans also come with options for a fully shielded loadout.

More classic-looking Space Marines to hark back to yesteryear. It will be interesting to hear what people think of these new Space Marines and the options for those wanting to play as Space Marines in the new edition of the game. I also see the door opening for those hobbyists who want to play older editions of the game but with new miniatures, rather than the retro ones. It wouldn't take much to convert these onto smaller bases and go back to past editions.
What do you make of them?

“They’re the same picture”.
Heretic! (You’re right)
Obligatory, broken-record “Just use clear flight stands!” comment.
The head-swap to older, better helmets does a lot of heavy lifting in the looks department. My biggest beef with Primaris (besides the stupid, unnecessary lore) is that they’re just so bland and “tacticool” compared to the older, less sleek/more brutal designs of Space Marine armor. The Mk. X helmet could almost come from any sci-fi power armored soldier, while the Mk. VII is THE iconic Space Marine look.
Also, it looks like they’re inching towards dropping the “Primaris” moniker altogether; I may grouse about retcons, but they can go ahead and hand-wave that garbage into the bin, claim it never happened, and I (and many others, I bet) would be fine with that. Plus, then they can go ahead and make Primaris-sized Chaos Marine models and make even *more* money.
Edit: Why am I whining? 3D printing exists…
I get I might be in the minority on this one but I’m actually kind of sad that the old Intercessor kit is going away.
My homebrew Chapter is a newly founded force so I have very intentionally gone down the look of the rank and file wearing mostly standard MKX armour with heraldry markings being what distinguishes them. Looking at some of the bodies, I suspect that this won’t be possible with the new kit as older marks make up a number of the torso and not just helmets and greaves.
Maybe I’ll pick one up for arms and bits (heaven knows I need all the sources of Sergeant power fists and grenade launchers I can get my mits on) but I think I’ll be rummaging around for boxes of the previous kit to complete my battleline.
why do those jetpack marines have to look like they’re tripping over a tactical rock ?
Surely a bit more variety would have been nice …
“Clear flight stand, short” – no rock.
Oh, man, don’t get me started…
It wouldn’t be so bad if the thing they’re tripping over/bumping against was a separate, optional piece; that way, those of us who are sane can just buy and use clear stands.
