Warlord Switching To Plastic Weapon Teams For Bolt Action
April 21, 2026 by brennon
Warlord Games has made quite a change to their miniatures for the World War II wargame Bolt Action. Classic metal Heavy Weapon Teams are going the way of the dodo to be replaced with brand-new plastic kits, starting with the Germans.

The current idea is that Warlord Games is going to be creating a selection of core sprues for the different armies of Bolt Action. For example, the Germans start with the Pak 40 Anti-Tank Gun, which comes with the plastic sprue for the gun alongside one for the crew that will sit alongside it.
The crew for the current set(s) is designed to work alongside the larger guns but also the smaller weapons teams (see more of those below). The uniforms are for Late-War Grenadiers, which could also be used to represent the Waffen-SS if you liked. They are designed to be compatible with the existing plastic infantry kits, so you can do some mixing and matching as you see fit.

If you're looking for more specific crews like those from the Fallschirmjäger, Winter Grenadiers, or Afrika Korps, Warlord Games is going to be keeping them around before they get worked into the larger plastic range in the future. Some of them will be replaced entirely, whilst others will be hybrid kits using metal, Warlord Resin and plastic together.
German Heavy Weapons Platoon // Bolt Action
As well as the larger artillery piece, you will also be able to get your hands on the new German Heavy Weapons Platoon (above). This comes with plastic options for you to build MG 34/42 Machine Guns, Medium Mortars and Panzerschreck teams for you to use in your games. This will be spread out across a number of frames, much like the artillery above.

As this project grows, the idea is that there will be one core artillery piece, a heavy weapons frame and a crew frame for each of the nations in Bolt Action that also has a plastic infantry kit. At that point, they will then go back and look at working on additional guns for all of the nations, replacing the metal kits as they go.
You can currently get your pre-orders in for the German Pak 40 Anti-Tank Gun and the German Heavy Weapons Platoon, both available as full plastic kits. What would you like to see be the main weapon options for other nations in Bolt Action?

Great to see these coming in plastic, poses look a bit rigid but that might just be how they’ve been assembled. Should make it so you see more of these hitting the battlefield.
All these arms and weapons should work on most of the other Warlord plastic Germans , so you can choose the pose that suits your purpose .
Price of metal goes up so companies run to plastic, then crazy idiots start bombing the oil capitals of the world and the price of plastics goes up. Feels like there is a reckoning coming for tabletop gaming companies, sadly. No affordable safe-haven materials anymore (unless everyone buys a 3D printer.)
A bit strong on the doom and gloom there for tabletop gaming I feel.
Not to stall the sack cloth, ashes and lamentations but the fact most players greatly prefer plastic, particularly for fiddly builds I suspect is more of a driver for the change
I like that the support weapons are being done in plastic now. I much prefer working with plastic than metal or resin.
I might add more anti-tank guns now I am not relying on two 0.5 mil pewter rings holding the thing together.
