    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.ontabletop.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • Switching to a new/different game after playing $GAME for any length of time. How do you choose on what to play next?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: when temps come down a bit more paint some minis again. And also not murder anybody when I get back to work on Monday XD

Switching game. I think I prefer to go to “trusted known good” for comfort but actually I think it’s best to discuss that with the people you play with. And make a decision on that subject this way. Jumping into something new and unknown can be fun. Or catastrophic XD

Pledge: Play some KoW and get familiar with the rules enough to introduce my friend to them this week.  Keep painting, even if it gets hot as I’ve got deadlines to meet 😀

Answer:  I’m generally at the behest of whoever is hosting the game as to what rules are used and whether I’ve played them or not.  We usually play something familiar but not always and I’m used to trying to figure things out as we go.  One of my friends is a collector of rulebooks and he often has a new game he wants to play.  I’ll usually have a go but not all of them are for me.  Their latest crush is Hobgoblin and I don’t really like the mechanics or the small game size, even though the rest of my group are quite taken with it, hence my move to KoW.

OTT website behaving oddly for anyone else this week?
I think hamsters are tired and need replacing …

Delivery notification for Tomb Raider kickstarter says I’m getting my package today, so I can’t do f*ck all today as I’m pretty sure that the moment I go on a supply run they will attempt delivery and claim that I was not at home. 🙁

Gen Con happened ? Was there zero news ?

I’m totally not looking at Dropzone Commander starter and the Plunder starter set …

Not really other than one odd thing yesterday. Search field was enormous and had a weird number on it.

    search-field

Gencon had cover on the YouTubes but it’s far far away and nothing special was revealed by anybody. Nobody had a big bit about anything.

Forums have been misbehaving in appearance for some reason.

No pledge. I still have Phoenix to airbrush, but I’ve been focused on RPG writing and when I wasn’t in the mood for that it was too hot to go outside and airbrush.

Not had chance to wargame in well over six months as my adversary been unavailable, but we are hoping to play something soon.

If I have a new shiny I want to play it, but I just see how the wind blows.

Misbehaving how? Only thing I noticed is the mentioned search bug (again this moment) but the odd javascript error I keep getting seems to be gone in that moment. Thought that might be coincidence

This week’s pledge is to finish the current batch of Hero’s 3 mins, and then maybe start this month’s painting competition model (if we haven’t been hit by yet another heat wave by then).

    • Switching to a new/different game after playing $GAME for any length of time. How do you choose on what to play next? – Back when I actually played games in a club, I’d pick a new game if it was the trend at the club and I liked the background/models.

I guess I need to get motivated enough to finish 16 metal Japanese troops I’ve primed & base coated . After 50 plus years painting & building plastic kit where you can paint a lot of bits on the sprues , I really hate painting a one piece figure . I have to be in the zone . So far this week I’ve avoided the Japanese  by converting  some of Warlord’s plastic 8th Army troops into jungle Australians by swapping out bare legs to long pants type legs . The metal Oz bush hat heads are on order . I added tools to the 2 new plastic 6 pounders and   I’ve also been tweaking Warlord’s metal 17 pounder gun with detail bits on the trail legs and a proper gunner and gunner’s seat . No need to pick a new game to play , as I don’t any games , I just build plastic army men & tanks 6 pdr - added tools

PLEDGE: three days of rain coming, means no bikes (gear change? Pull clutch, release throttle, engage gear, double-blip gas!) – but back to hobby this coming later week.

Games: I have changed gears based on what I’m watching: I recently ordered way too much Victrix based on “King and Conqueror” – all about the politics of the pre-Norman conquest and the following period. Later this year, I’m going to follow much of this same route in person with my spouse (god bless her!), as it’s monumental in terms of historical significance.

New movie of the week, on Netflix: Operation Safed Sagar – the 1999 Kashmir conflict, following which Pervez Musharraf performed his coup in Pakistan. A fantastic series of 6 episodes.

I’m not prone to changing gears on games. Projects certainly, but whole games not so much.

Changing games requires an external pressure for me in the past, I started Dropzone because the group opted to play Dropzone rather than my preferred (at the time) Sparten Games Planetfall… and well that looks in hindsight to have been for the best. But nothings shaken Dropzone as my preferred game since. That said I lost the vast majority of my game group when the club dissolved during The Event, and only a couple of us still live near each other and we all have young kids in the 1-5 range so we play games rarely enough now that none of us could be arsed learning something new.

I think we’ve talked about going back to a regular game night every time we’ve met up and not managed to do it in 6 years. Such is life in the young family stage I think. At least that’s my experience of it. If that ever actually happens, new games might be on the table.

Yes, it is. My daughter is now 15 an I still struggle to find enough “me time”

Ah, I understand. That hasn’t happened to me yet.

    Monday. Back at work.

Stumbled across a Gundam PaintComp. Applied to the runner lottery. Here’s hoping!

So CleanTalk Spam protection doesn’t want me to post this because it thinks it’s spam. Lets add these extra lines to get around that problem.
