My Tomb Raider pledge arrived on saturday. It came with a statue and it is big. Much bigger than that tiny Mech for Battletech Mercenaries.
Not sure why I got 2 of them. I think I wanted one as a painting project or I forgot one had been included already.
Either way … it is a cool thing that is begging for paint. And because I’ve got two I don’t have to be afraid of making mistakes.speaking of motor cycles this must be a really cool book :
The Motorcycle BookAugust 12, 2026 at 5:44 am #1981966I think that’s what I would call a “Cafe Racer Coffee Table Book” XD Nice pictures. Reminds me of all the model kits my late uncle had build. All classic 60 and 70 racing motor cycles.
August 12, 2026 at 2:37 pm #1982056I see GenCon have released their attendance data and they had their highest ever with 74,000 unique attendees (@209,000 total). I was interested to see how this compares with the other big industry shows and it is getting up towards SPIEL Essen 220,000 total (@95,000 uniques). Both are much bigger than UKGE 51,196 unique (@87,000 total) although SPIEL and GenCon are 4 day events and UKGE just 2 days. It shows that board and card games really are the big draw. Salute is the biggest show in wargaming and it had 7,400 attendees this year.
As has already been discussed there weren’t any blockbuster releases or much news of any sort out of GenCon, other than it raining inside the hall, but that doesn’t seem to be what is attracting people to go.
August 12, 2026 at 2:42 pm #1982057I think the “biggest” news was the D&D Warcraft and Star Wars announcement. And that also didn’t make that big of a splash overall.
Funnily enough I only saw the video today. And either they had a separate audio track at the end or the audience was silent during the Star Wars reveal.
Just listen in at 1:07:50
Had that been any other event the crowed would have gone ape s**i when the breathing starts.

@sundancer you are right, they cut the background sound track from the hall but there was absolutely no noise at all when it came back on. It seems they might have crossed the streams with that one.
I’m sure Warcraft will be popular with the D&D crowd. Not my thing, but each to their own. I’m sure there are a lot more D&D players out there than there are tabletop wargamers 😀
August 12, 2026 at 2:56 pm #1982060Also, what I hadn’t seen before. They do a crowds shot at the very and. And barely anyone in the row 3 and up is clapping hands XD
“Could have gone better”
August 12, 2026 at 4:40 pm #1982066UKGE is 3 days by the way. I only go on the Friday normally as it’s mostly shopping for me.
August 13, 2026 at 5:39 am #1982073I suspect that thanks to Internet and crowdfunding there isn’t really any need to do big announcements at a few select conventions.
We’ve seen it happen to video games (E3 used to be the hot event for new games).
Even electronics shows like the CES at the start of the year is getting less impressive.I also wonder how many companies avoided GenCon due to certain events over there … as such it is kind of impressive that GenCon managed to post record visitor counts.
August 13, 2026 at 12:01 pm #1982105I’ve had a couple of days of play testing with my friend who came to stay. It turns out that the units I’m putting in my army perform pretty well against each other as we were playing Ambush at 500 and 750 points. I’ve got a couple of rules queries I’ll need to go away and look up but the basics of the game are very straightforward.
On that topic the next article in the starting Kings of War series is out. I’ve given the full army list I’m planning on using in the tournaments and would welcome any comments or advice you may have.

What can a bar beer do that a home beer can not?
A bar beer can cut your hair, dye it and trim your beard.

August 14, 2026 at 2:57 pm #1982164August 14, 2026 at 3:20 pm #1982165I’m loving it!
Well in that case I’ll just leave this here. I can’t claim authorship, fortunately.
In Egypt they’ve just found a mummy covered in what looks like an early form of chocolate with chopped nuts in it. They think they may have found Pharaoh Rocher.
August 14, 2026 at 3:27 pm #1982166Oh fine…
Two fish are sitting in a tank.
One turns to the other, and says: can you drive this thing?
a TANK.
