Hi all. I am starting on my first proper army project for years. I will be getting some resin bases for my models but would like to get stuck in before then. How do you go about attaching them temporarily to some other bases? I am thinking pinning might b the way to go to make transferring them to the resin ones easier.
Is the purpose of this to paint the resin bases separately and just have something for your models to be on whilst painting the models or is this so you can play games with them as you build and paint the force and eventually transfer the painted models to the resin bases?
PVA is an option – you’ll have a reasonable stick without being too hard to remove later. If you’re moving to resin bases though, I’d agree that pinning might be the better option – although it’s more work of course 🙂
There’s no reason you can’t do a bit of both – PVA to get playing, upgrade to pins a unit at a time or whatever. I’d make sure you pin before you start painting though – if I was pinning later, I’d be worried about taking off paint as pinning requires a fairly firm hold on the figures (at least the way I do it 😀 )
Pin them several reasons why and how
For quickly getting up and playing, I’ve found for smaller lighter models, blue tack works pretty well as a quick solution.
Thanks all. I am attaching them temporarily so that I can paint them and the bases separately. My plan is to paint them before using them, but that will no doubt change as time goes on and I get distracted, using corks unfortunately won’t be of any use to me as I find my hand cramps when doing so.
I like to pin my models to milk bottle tops for painting. Usually no glue is needed to hold them in place, but when it is I apply a dollop of PVA to the underside of the bottle cap when the pins are already in place. It’ll take a few hours to dry properly and you might need to balance your model up side down for this, but it works well and the PVA peels of easily when you are ready. measure up suitable pin holes in your resin bases before any paint touches anything and you ca then just transfer them straight over.
