Roleplay In The Underhive With New Necromunda Game
September 21, 2026 by brennon
Necromunda Skirmish as a new naming convention suddenly makes a lot of sense. Games Workshop announced that they are also going to bring Necromunda Roleplay to the tabletop, as you take on the role of "heroes" of the Underhive with your friends.
Necromunda Roleplay // Games Workshop
Like any roleplaying game, you will take on the role of the main characters of the story which is lain out before you by the Arbitrator (Game Master/Dungeon Master). The Core Set, which you can see above, comes with all that you need to get started in your roleplaying adventures, starting with the Iconic Characters that you can play as.
Escher Assassin // Necromunda Roleplay
The Venators that you can play are the Escher Assassin, Goliath Champion, Orlock Gunslinger or the Squat Fixer.
Goliath Champion // Necromunda Roleplay
As well as having the rules for use in Necromunda Roleplay and appropriate character sheets, you'll also get alternative build options for crafting them as characters and ways for you to build your own Venators from the wider Necromunda collection.

Squat Fixer // Necromunda Roleplay
They just so happen to also look brilliant as options for you to use as Champions and Gang Leaders in your regular games of Necromunda. I can see a lot of people picking up the set just for that. If you're playing the "heroes", you also need some villainous villains for you to come up against during your games.
Heretek with Servo Skull // Necromunda Roleplay
Ministorum Preacher and Clan Saboteur // Necromunda Roleplay
These Adversaries are represented by the Scabber, Saboteur, Hive Preacher, Cadaver Merchant and the Heretek with Servo-Skull. Again, these would be excellent for those wanting NPCs, Hired Guns and Hangers-on within their gangs when playing normal Necromunda.

These will be usable alongside two complete adventures that are included within the Core Set. You have "An Abominable Intelligence", where you must hunt down a Van Saar Heretek. "The Pilgrimage of Bones" has you seeking out a Cawdor Preacher on behalf of the Corpse Harvesters Guild. They can then be used however you see fit for your own adventures that you plan.
Every villain needs mooks and you get a great set of new Hive Scum as part of the Core Set.

Hive Scum // Necromunda Roleplay
This is a great way to expand the existing roster of Hive Scum from Games Workshop and gives you loads of new weapon options and styles of sculpt to vary up your collection. Everyone needs Hive Scum at some point to bolster their gang and fill some of the gaps left by those who are out of action.
The Core Set comes with your Arbitrator's Screen, a bunch of character sheets, handouts, maps and dice for you to make use of during your games.

The characters and the mechanics look like they are a blend of what you'd expect from the likes of Imperium Maledictum (note the d100) and regular Necromunda, so it might be a good way to onboard fellow wargamers into the world of roleplaying.
As someone who loves roleplaying, this is going to be an automatic buy for me, especially since I've been enjoying Necromunda as well recently. It could provide you with some fun opportunities for you to take Necromunda campaigns in a different direction and make use of your collection in different ways.
Necromunda Roleplay will also come alongside expansions, starting with Journal Apocrypha: Denizens of the Hive – Adversaries Book 1. This will contain information on fifty-one new Adversaries/Allies covering the various Clan Houses, Enforcers, Ogryns, beasts and more. You'll even find rules for Kal Jericho and Scabs.
Necromunda Roleplay should be coming very soon, so keep an eye out for it!
What do you think?

RPG with minis. Someone will asplode!
As I said elsewhere… first GW product in 5 years that interested me… subject to price and how small the print run is.
If the price is low it will likely be bought by people just wanting the figures. In which case the rules will end up on ebay and that might interest me if they are the right price.
Now this might tempt me into new necromunda, but the rules will be key. Given the necromunda rules relaunch made the decision brought mass battle rules into a skirmish game I shall need to see it played
