About the Project

This is a terrain project... and painting project. I bought some tiles to use in Marvel Crisis Protocol and I have just weakened and ordered the MCP X-Men Starter (which I had to order from america)... The old is some proxy miniatures that I bought some time ago from Etsy along with some scatter terrain from Walking Dead. How long it will take to complete is unclear and I started work on the project before I took any photos... so the first images will be part way through the project.

The Storage So Far...

Some of the miniatures are very delicate and would not survive being stored in foam, so I magnetised all the bases and taped a magnetic white board to the bottom of the really useful box.

A few of the minatures are too tall for the depth of box, so I added a side piece.

They won’t survive violent shaking as the magnets are not that good, but for careful storage they will do.

I will struggle to get the Guardians of the Galaxy proxies and Silk in there, not to mention any additional miniatures.

Most of the terrain fits inside the NYC Block Terrain box. Just need to find storage (or shelf space) for the two buildings.

Edit: I switched to a deeper really useful box so I can store them all standing up and have added a ‘lipped stationary tray’ to store the rulers, dice and damage tokens. The other tokens and character cards I am keeping in the core box.

I know it’s silly, but I wanted Spider-ham and he came with Spiderman Noir and Silk.

Having a bit of trouble with Silk’s costume so she is still in progress.

Spiderman Noir was pretty much Grim Black Speed Paint.

Porky was a regular combo for me in this set… Blood Angels Red and Ultramarine Blue. Hammer is Snakebite Leather which I like for wood effects.

Might get a few more to add to the collection. At the moment I’m contemplating Asgardians, or maybe something with Dr Strange.

Also thinking about doing one more tile for the board to take up to twelve.

And finally the last of X-Men Starter Set…

Toad’s costume is Nazdreg Yellow and Ultramarine Blue. Hair is Snakebite Leather and the tongue is Blood Angels Red.

For Magneto it took several coats of Privateer Press Beaten Purple to get it smooth enough. Rest of his costume if Blood Angels red.

Getting close with the X-Men now.

Wolverine is mostly Nazdreg Yellow and Ultramarine Blue with Contrast Black Templar for hair and Plate Mail for his claws.

Cyclops is Ultramarine Blue with Ultramarine Contrast over the top. As with Storm I went with Greedy Gold instead of yellow.

Gambit has a Contrast Snakebite Leather for his coat and Ultramarine Blue for his trousers. Black Templar boots, Plate Mail Staff and Magos Purple for the cards and shirt.

Rogue has a Blood Angels Red costume with Black Templar jacket. Gore-Grunta Fur and white for the hair. Not too happy with the smoke effect yet. Flames are Nazdreg Yellow and Blood Angels Red. Finally some silver for the bits of metal.

Three more minis that I’m working on and need finishing touches.

All were primed with white.

The bases are primed grey. Any metal skimmed with Army Painter Plate Mail Metal. Base then has Contrast Basilicanum Grey as a wash.

Mystique is mostly white with Privateer Press Arcane Blue for skin. It needs a wash though. Hair is Contrast Blood Angels Red because I like the shade.

Sabretooth is mostly Contrast Paints, Nazdreg Yellow and Gore-Grunta Fur. Flesh (which I use for lots of my minis is Game Colour Bronze Fleashtone.

The base for Storm has the same Arcane Blue for the lightning, but it needs touching up and another colour that I’m not sure about yet. Her skin is Gore-Grunta Fur because I wasn’t sure what else to try. Uniform is Speed Paint Grim Black. Yellow is a tricky colour to work with, so I went with Warpaint Greedy Gold.

All of the above need more work (as does Beast).

Cyclops, Wolverine and Toad almost done. Having trouble with the purple for Magneto’s cloak. Rogue and Gambit are about half done.

Beast

Started with the easiest one… Beast.

Primed white.

Ultramarine Blue Contrast for the fur. Couple of coats.

Black for the spectacles with a dab of silver for lenses.

Red shorts (because I liked the colour scheme of X-treme X-Men) with black belt and silver buckle.

Needs a few touch ups and work on the base.

Beast should probably not be hanging on to metal is the master of magnetism is in the area.Beast should probably not be hanging on to metal is the master of magnetism is in the area.
Love the colour scheme of X-Treme X-Men. Red spandex better choice than yellow.Love the colour scheme of X-Treme X-Men. Red spandex better choice than yellow.

First time laying out the table. X-Men not painted yet, so that’s just the Core Set and some proxies I got from Etsy.

A few bits need finishing off, but I just wanted to see what it looked like on the table.

Found a colour that I like for the windows and it was a metallic blue from the pen set. It’s still not perfect, but I’m happy with it.

Some tidying up to do and the rest of the windows to install on the other sides of this building and the other building, but I’m getting there.

Finally starting to feel like I'm getting somewhere. Once the terrain is finished I will turn my attention to the X-Men miniatures. Finally starting to feel like I'm getting somewhere. Once the terrain is finished I will turn my attention to the X-Men miniatures.
