Once more into the Frozen City!

My minor demons are a frames worth of mantic succubi I’ve put on round bases. They were great models and when I first saw them they reminded me of the succubi from warcraft. Well if someone one going to be summoning a minor demon I thought they would be great for that and the painted up well. I didnt fancy them being uniform, demons are unifrom. Different skin tones were used. I did find them a little brittle, but that could be my heavy handed nature when dry brushing parts.

For my minor constructs, as I’ve said before , I pictured dwarven enchanters in mind for all constructs. Well I’d bought wargods aegyptus totanem Regiment and harbinger years and years ago when I first saw them this side of the pond, mid 2000’s. Well centred around the dwarven aesthetic i saw some of the regimented totanem as minor constructs. Plus a few images of Mr pump from disc world novels and the idea was set in my mind. A colour scheme of stone was chosen and my go at a clay like Mr pump. I’ll probably do like a sandstone if I do a few more down the road.

With the wraiths I’ve got quite a few nighthaunt because of the mortal realms magazine. The choice was an easy one though as the glaivewraiths are my favourite look, plus painting them up like the Mari Lwyd to impress the kids. I went with a lighter grey/ white for these with bone colours for the skull and arms. I like the idea of a red scheme for the rest of my wraiths in a sort of red like crimson peak.

My favourite troll is the lotr, not been a fan of most, although avatars of wars new plastics look nice. But yeh, took the lotr troll and went with the main colour scheme from the film just a little darker. Looks great done up. But just before I posted this I realised there an option for 2 trolls on the list. Ill pull out my metal one and paint him up now.

For the bear option , i fancied something more ehimsical/D&D style and went eith a hook horror. Ive got pleanty of bears for my old west and dead mans hand games, including an undead bear. The choice was made a good while ago when i grabbed the nolzurs hook horror. With hooks like those you picture him bear hugging someone to death. Ive always liked hook horrors since readings Drizzt Exile years ago. I wasnt sure how i wanted it to look , so my wife chose the colour scheme for me.

With the leopard i new I wanted something a bit more brutal looking and degrees sabretooth did the job. It fit that leopard look and I’ve seen quite a few images and things of the sabretooth with a snow leopard type patterning on their fur. I thought mid try to emulate that and so how it goes. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Wouldn’t like to be pounced on by that’n!

The second troll that was needed, for the 2 snow troll entries. This is my metal one I’ve had since what 2001/2002. Still such a great miniature. I painted him like the first one, I think lol.

The nighthaunt Knight of shrouds was me trying the other paint scheme i fancy for my nighthaunt/wraiths. Born out of an idea of mixing the imagery of crimson peaks all red ghosts with terry brooks description of the red Wraiths from the Shannara Chronicles. Rust is a new thing for me so trying that was interesting and the levels of red in the knights cloak came out great. Really happy with how he looks and would like to do all other nighthaunts in this scheme going forward. Got a few from the mortal realms magazine. Kurdoss valentian in this scheme would be great as the red King for those scenarios. Hmm idea percolator lol.

The giant was the guy i was building myself up for. He’s a dnd hill giant but I really liked the look of him and preferred his look over the stone giant when that came out later I think it was. I had this image of him, like walrus’ and Whales,  there is a theory behind carrying that extra weight. So yeh he took the longest to paint, many layers of speed paints, dry brushes, washes and detailing. He was a long, laborious, labour of love and im really happy how he turned out. The tartan was gamble after a conversation between me and the missus. Think that came out well too. Very happy giant Boi!

Checking the list i noticed i was a giant rat short. I didnt have another one from thr source but I knew there was one on the wizards 2 frame, so I put that together and he’ll be my 4th in a pinch. 

The list is complete. I didnt actually think I’d get to finish it. I got to be honest, I was pretty intimidated with a few of the miniatures. I dont know if it was what to gain inspiration from or just how cool the miniature was. To list a few, the sabretooth tooth tiger and the giant, and the worm, to be fair.

Ill probably add to the skeletons, ghouls medium constructs like i said previously, but the great thing is I’ve looked the paint schemes here.

I’m really happy with how everything has come out and am happy to get back into a bit of terrain painting maybe, got some doors and bookcases I could do. What if I start a new warband or 3 because I’ve got the frostgrave bug again. Oh God. Happy with what I’ve done, on a flow now. Later guys.
