New ALIEN RPG Adventure + New Miniatures From Free League!
June 17, 2026 by brennon
ALIEN The Roleplaying Game from Free League Publishing has recently gone through a new edition, tightening up the game mechanics whilst also providing brand-new options for those wanting to dive into storytelling at the tabletop in a universe packed with corporations, marines and xenomorphs. There are even miniatures!
Operation Leading Edge // ALIEN
Kicking things off, we have a new cinematic adventure option for those diving into the ALIEN roleplaying game. Operation Leading Edge has been designed as a complete cinematic adventure (think of it like a self-contained one-shot) for three to five players plus your Game Mother (DM). You will take on the role of Colonial Marines who have been sent to secure a rich mineral deposit on a remote moon called Jeremiah VI. I'm sure it will all go well.
Operation Leading Edge - Contents // ALIEN
The box comes with the Operation Leading Edge adventure book plus two big maps, which feature all of the locations from the campaign. You will also find five pre-generated characters and cards for all of the personal agendas for your players and the NPCs. There are also cardboard tokens to represent the different characters (and creatures) in the campaign plus loads of handouts.
You will need The ALIEN RPG Core Rulebook (Evolved Edition or First Edition) to play Operation Leading Edge so if you already have the first edition book in your collection, you're good to dive in. There is also a Starter Set if you'd like to go that route into diving into ALIEN on the tabletop.
ALIEN Miniatures + A Game?
If you want to replace the tokens in your games with miniatures, Free League has produced a set of pre-built plastic miniatures which you can use for doing just that.
Miniatures Set // ALIEN
This set has been designed to work alongside Operation Leading Edge with twenty high-quality miniatures representing Colonial Marines, the Union of Progressive Peoples and of course, the deadly and horrifying Xenomorphs.
All of them are 28mm scale and can be used alongside the battle maps from the ALIEN roleplaying game or, of course, on a tabletop that you've made yourself.

As a bonus, this miniature set also comes with some simplified combat rules AND a scenario generator so that you can play out quick skirmish battles using the Marines, UPP and the Xenomorphs. I really like that they've slotted that booklet in there to help out those who are a bit more wargame-focused and are perhaps diving into ALIEN as a roleplaying game at the same time.
I think it would be ace to get a closer look at those miniature skirmish game rules to see how much breadth they have for those wanting to do a few games. Will they have enough depth in them to give you a chance to play around with different ideas that step beyond the bounds of the box?
Maybe you could even use the miniatures from the Gale Force Nine board game alongside these rules to expand the skirmish rules out a bit more? We shall have to wait and see.
What do you think of the new boxed set and the miniatures?

I picked up the first miniature set and the skirmish rules are very similar to the main rpg rules but didn’t contain any marines so this is a nice edition. Ill have to have another look at the scenario generator for it, Nice to see the UPP so you can have clashes with no aliens. I wonder if Leading Edge is a nod to the original company who did the first rpg and Aliens board games back in the early 90s.
OMG! They ripped off GW Tyranids!!!11oneLl!
