@elromanozo hey man i noticed that you have a vast line of blue tones in your paint layout on the desk, is that just random or is that down to your own choice?
Ah, well… That’s just because I did a lot of blue in another tutorial, and we kept the set ! I generally like to spread out my hues in an orderly fashion where I can reach them, preferably the choice of tones I think I will be using. It helps when you don’t have to rummage through paint mid-tutorial ! 🙂
Some unique color choices. It’ll be interesting to see what get’s done to each and how they develop.

Lets see when it is finished, so far Its veyr well painted but the colour scheme is just too bright for me.
It gets darker… But this is a cartoony figure, so I wanted to keep it kind of exuberant, not too dark.

That’s my Wednesday fix of Romain painting taken care of.
I was looking forward to seeing how Romain would do ginger hair for this guy. Having looked again at the basic color scheme so far, I can understand how green hair will look better considering the “cartoony” nature of the sculpt.
I think Romain should have his own regular hour-long show. I for one would love to put on the old smoking jacket, pull up the paint table next to a warm fire with a glass of fine beverage, and listen to him wax lyrical about painting technique and sundry musings. These ten minute clips just aren’t enough.

I was worried about the choice of a redhead after you opted for an orange hued brown. The switch to turquoise makes sense for contrast.

Well, you can’t please everyone… I do not mean to “impress” with a colour scheme (how would one even do that ? One can only impress with virtuosity in pulling off an artistic choice…). I am actually not trying to awe people… As long as you learn something from the technique and composition, or the harmony, the hues aren’t that important, though: just use the colours you like for your minis… I am NOT dictating recipes, much less trying to grab people’s attention (imagine simply watching me paint without explanation or purpose… how dull ! Like watching paint dry…), I am, however, trying to teach techniques.
I fear bright colours when painting – but can see it’s right for this.
Thank for telling us about the paints splitting into, I have a few jars like that myself.

What is the advantage of only using washes? I haven’t seen that in any tutorials. (I’m a newbie mini painter by the way)
The answer to that is a bit involved… Ah, you should probably watch the Technique Toolbox series that I did on various techniques… Right here on Beasts of War ! Just use the search engine.

really cool looking game
Really enjoying this one, I often paint in a very dark and grimey style, its nice to see a more vibrant colour scheme with an unusual palette. There’s always something new to learn, keep up the good work Romain!

Yes, they’re very spindly… This is due to the constraints of casting low quality in plastic. The original sculpt was much better proportioned, really, but you’ve got to remember that this is a game piece, not a proper miniature.
I like a more darker warrior. But thats my personal preference
