The Red Terror Strikes Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team This Week
May 5, 2026 by brennon
Games Workshop are taking previews for their new Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team set this weekend. The Red Terror strikes as the Tyranid miniature returns as part of the Terror on Devlan boxed set.
Terror on Devlan // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
Terror on Devlan switches up your games of Kill Team as your operatives, the elite Spectre Squad, must face off against the deadly Red Terror and its brood and horrors. This introduces another level of asymmetric gameplay to Kill Team with the ultra-powerful Red Terror and the horde of Termagants threatening to overwhelm the specialised members of Spectre Squad, who are, after all, still human!
Red Terror // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
On the other side, you have Spectre Squad, a team of elite killers who have taken on Xenos threats from across the galaxy multiple times. They are all specialists in their own right, adept with their weapon of choice and able to hold their own against whatever the enemy might throw at them. They also look awesome, which helps a lot!
Spectre Squad Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
The set comes with elite Cadians using missile launchers, sniper rifles, plasma guns, lasguns and a bevvy of different explosives. It still feels like this was a missed opportunity for them to be the first new Catachans in a while, since those Death World killers are used to fighting Tyranids on all sorts of different worlds! I'm sure some folks will come up with some interesting kitbashes and conversions to make them suit their regiment of choice.
Nemesis Operatives
As well as the new Kill Team box, there is also an expansion for the game which introduces more of these powerful, elite enemies for your squads to face.
Nemesis Operatives Kit // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
Nemesis Operative introduces rules for creating deadly threats that your Kill Team must face. That could be the likes of a Screamer-Killer or perhaps a rampaging Redemptor Dreadnought that wants to settle some old scores with your Chaos Kill Team!
This folds into Kill Team more options for solo, cooperative and head-to-head games. There is a custom builder mechanic but also examples like the Armoured Sentinel, XV8 Crisis Battlesuit plus missions built around the Ambull and Archivist.
Talking of those particular Nemesis Operatives, you have two of them coming back to fit into your Kill Team games.
The Archivist // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
The ancient Zoat known as The Archivist is back. He steps out of the confines of Blackstone Fortress and can now be used in Betrayal and Negotiation missions in Kill Team. Just watch out for his terrifying and ancient atomic disassembler.
Kill Team fans can also face down the dangerous and brutal Ambull that will be looking to rip your arms off to feed its brood.
Ambull // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
The Ambull set also comes with the bonus Borewyrm Infestation to help hunt down its prey. It can be used in both Joint Ops and Adversary Ops, bearing a set of brutal claws that are going to be up to the task of opening up a powered armoured Space Marine, never mind a poor Guardsman!
Past Kill Teams Return
As well as the Nemesis Operatives kit, two older Kill Teams also return for you to use in the skirmish game or to fold into larger Warhammer 40,000 armies.
Celestian Insidiants // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
The Celestian Insidiants are the fanatical witch slayers of the Adepta Sororitas, trained to take down psychic foes with their null maces. Lovely. You can build the Sister Superior and a band of warriors but also the Kill Team Specialists.
- Censor
- Abjuror
- Denuncia
- Reliquarius
- Mortisanctus
- Cremators
Similarly murderous but from the opposite end of the spectrum, you can also pick up the Murderwing of the Night Lords.
Murderwing // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
These are your murderous Night Lords Raptors and Warp Talons led by a Chaos Lord, which can also be built as their Kill Team specialists.
- Champion
- Huntmaster
- Depredator
- Shrieker
- Curseclaw
- Skysear
The Night Lords have always been one of the coolest (and darkest) elements of the Chaos Space Marines and it's good to see that they got a more specialised kit with the right helmet options and such. This could be the start of a neat army of Night Lords.
Rules for using these two sets in Kill Team can be found HERE and there are free rules for using them in Warhammer 40,000 HERE. You can also buy the Datacard Packs if you'd prefer to have their rules physically for use at the tabletop.
Datacard Packs // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
That covers all of the new and returning miniatures on their way for those diving into Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team. I think the Terror on Devlan is going to be very popular with both Astra Militarum and Tyranid players for Warhammer 40,000 as well as for Kill Team.
What do you make of the new miniatures and have you played much Kill Team?

more ‘nids…. hmmm…… *thinks of bucket of ‘nids at home* No, I’m good.
If only that did Catachan would have made Terror on Devlan very worthwhile.
