Five New Battle March Boxes For Warhammer: The Old World

With the new, revised rulebook for Warhammer: The Old World on the way and the Battle March: General’s Companion, it's now easier than ever to get stuck into what is fast becoming one of the best Games Workshop games. Five new Battle March boxes were recently revealed, providing a starting point for budding generals.

Empire of Man // Warhammer: The Old World

For those not in the know, Battle March has been designed for quick Warhammer: The Old World battles using forces that range between 400 and 750 points. With additional rules tweaks for the smaller size of game, you get all of the rank-and-flank action but without having to collect absolutely massive armies.

The Empire of Man set (above) features a good mixture of troops that represent the army. You have a General on Foot with his Great Weapon, twenty State Troops, ten Flagellants, ten State Missile Troops with crossbows or handguns and ten Empire Archers. This is all capped off by five Outriders, which you can also build as Pistoliers.

Rampaging out of the Drakwold, we also have a Battle March set for the Beastman Brayherds.

Beastman Brayherd // Warhammer: The Old World

This set comes with one of the Beastman Chieftains (a seriously cool miniature) alongside a Beastman Shaman, ten Ungors, ten Bestigors, twenty Gors and then ten Chaos Warhounds. This is going to be a great set for rampaging across the battlefield quickly and triggering ambushes when the enemy least expects it.

Similar in their ability to rampage, we also have a Battle March set for the Orc and Goblin Tribes.

Orc and Goblin Tribes // Warhammer: The Old World

Getting into the heart of the action quickly seems to be the aim of this set. You have an Orc Boss on his Warboar as well as the Battle Standard Bearer who comes as part of the same plastic set. A Goblin Shaman backs them up, plus fifteen Orc Boys, five Goblin Wolf Riders, five Orc Boar Boys and then a shuddering, ramshackle Orc Boar Chariot. Prepare to receive a charge should this ever end up coming towards you on the battlefield.

The High Elf Realms are the second-to-last set, marshalling their forces to defend their outposts in the Old World from enemy attack.

High Elf Realms // Warhammer: The Old World

This resplendent host is led by a Sea Guard High Elf Lord who fittingly matches up with ten Lothern Sea Guard. You also have five Shadow Warriors, five Ellyrian Reavers, a Tiranoc Chariot and finally, the Lothern Skycutter. I quite like that there's a definite theme going on here for a scouting force of border guards, watching out for enemies on the horizon.

Last but not least, we have the Wood Elf Realms.

Wood Elf Realms // Warhammer: The Old World

This set comes with more guardians, led by Araloth, Lord of Talsyn. He has been able to muster ten Eternal Guard alongside five Sisters of the Thorn, four Glade Riders with longbows and eight Glade Guard with longbows. Much like with the Beastmen Brayherds, I would guess that this is going to be a great hit-and-run force that excels at pinning the enemy down and dogging their every turn.

These sets are going to be available soon from Games Workshop and would be a perfect starting point for someone venturing into Warhammer: The Old World. I'm really hoping that these sets come with build lists inside to make it easy for newcomers, as well as all of the statistics, so folks don't have to buy the big books to begin playing (beyond the rulebook, of course).
