Right.
After posting that it was only good for gap filling, I found a tutorial on using it to build up textures on models, etc. so, I’ve been happily corrected.

It is not a sculpting medium (except for textures) though.

So my plastercine arrived and the first thing i did was mix it 50:50 with milliput standard. Chuck it in the pasta machine and roll a pin over it with the 2mm bands on it.

without waiting for it too cure i can report that it works very well. I shall report again in a few hours when its cured.

Have you considered filing down the underside of the bases if 5mm plastic + 2mm putty is too high?  Do they need all 5mm of their initial height to maintain their shape or integrity?
