### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.ontabletop.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- You finished a project. Do you grab something from your pile, take a brake or “oh new shiny!”?
And now back to the show.
June 26, 2026 at 5:00 pm #1978374Pledge: not to drop dead in this heat
Answer: after the nids I think I need a break. After that I’ll probably I’ll pick something from the pile. Just because I want stuff finished after years.
Music:
Remain indoors! Stay hydrated!
June 26, 2026 at 6:01 pm #1978375Pledge: Get started on some painting again. Tomorrow is due to be cooler and Sunday back to seasonal norms so I should be good to get the brushes out and settle down for a bit. Sand minis that I got at Salute and a cute little game in a box by Space Denizens are in the painting table.
Answer: Yes. All three actually. After the SCC epic I’ve had a break assisted by the heat and at the same time dipped into the pile to get some quick building and undercoating done and I’m also starting on another big project, but more on that later in the week.
Another The Who:
June 27, 2026 at 8:29 am #1978383Finishing a project ?
Is that a thing ?
How do you do that ?
Please teach me the wisdom oh wise ones …It was 35 degrees Celsius … inside yesterday. Too hot to do anything productive.
I had wanted to start on Armageddon, but then the K’47 mystery box arrived and I ordered a few more bits for that.
If it hadn’t been for the bloody weather I might have gotten those bits yesterday. And for a while it looked like they might arrive today, but the weather will be too hot for the posties to do their job (can’t say I blame them … ). So things will arrive on monday (if all goes as planned).Did I mention I got Mantic bits incoming too ?
So yeah … that’s 3 projects that in theory would be done in sequence, but manage to arrive within days of each other.I’m not good at staying focused, but the weather made that worse.
oh … and I’m working on my own little hobby project that is mostly me telling Claude what I want and it doing it for me. That’s also about the most effort I got in this weather.June 27, 2026 at 8:32 am #1978384Last weeks pledge was stay hydrated and minimise sun exposure. For a change I achieved the pledge.
Pledge: This weeks sounds simple, but it seldom is… set up my new colour printer.
Finish a project. Now there is a novel idea.I might try that sometime this year.
June 27, 2026 at 10:28 am #1978385This week’s pledge is to resume and finish the next batch of Heroes 3 minis. These are mostly summons. Didn’t even try painting last week – I know from experience paint dries on the brush too quick in that heat and they get ruined.
- You finished a project. Do you grab something from your pile, take a brake or “oh new shiny!”? – Usually I’ve started the next set of minis in a few days. Sometimes it might take a week or so.
June 27, 2026 at 11:23 am #197838633°C outside in the shadows. I might just choose to sit here and not move at all, do nothing and be happier for it XD
June 27, 2026 at 11:41 am #1978387Finishing a project ?
Is that a thing ?
How do you do that ?@limburger Finishing is definitely a thing but it doesn’t have to be a thing for everyone and I’m glad about that. Most of my secondhand purchases are abandoned projects so I do well when folk choose to move on to something else.
As our glorious leader often says, our hobby is a pastime, it is literally intended as a way for us to pass time. There’s nothing in that about having to finish anything. Hobby your way for sure.Personally I get a kick out of finishing a project and I’m increasingly focusing on getting incomplete things finished or sold as I don’t need that many loose ends rattling round in my head. My version of hobby is like a car park, I play and display, so the overall quality isn’t quite as important as getting finished. That gets perfectionist me out of the way so stuff can get to the table and then go in the display case.
@sundancer perhaps if you stay still enough for long enough the hot will not find you? Worth a try. I went for a nap on our hottest day. That seemed like the best way to spend the time and meant I could watch sportball for longer in the evening.
June 27, 2026 at 4:51 pm #1978406You’re right that hobby is the hobby so finishing does not have to be a goal on its own.
I’d love to have a project that at least is functionally finished instead of barely getting out of the box and onto my hobby desk.
At least I can blame the weather for this one 😀I barely went outside and still manage to burn the skin of my legs … or so it feels like.
Not quite sure how that happened.June 27, 2026 at 9:18 pm #1978408Being retired and having minimal family obligations , I pretty much go from project to project between movies on DVD and afternoon naps . I usually have 10 -15 1/56 scale tank kits in the stash ( not counting the 1/48 , 1/35 , 1/25 & 1/16 scale tank kits left over from my youth ) , usually a box or two of the new Warlord British , Japanese or Soviet releases plus a dozen or more assorted Warlord sprues of WW2 figures for kit bashing purposes . As a palette cleanser I do have a few resin garden gnomes to finish painting , and I might have a commission to paint a ceramic Snow White & the 7 dwarves set for the Senior’s Lodge garden , as long as there’s no time limit I’ll do it . At the moment I’m painting a couple of North Star’s 10 figure metal Soviet troops sets , and have a couple of M3 Stuarts and a Char B1 flamethrower tank on deck . There are days when I’m up before 5am and I build and paint all day , and other times I’ll sit at the hobby bench and you- tube my day away .
June 28, 2026 at 8:21 am #1978415This has been the wettest, coldest June in my memory. I resent those of you with hot summers!
Pledge: survive my in-laws visit and not be nasty. One more week.
Heat: I have air in my place, which, when hot or even muggy hot, is GLORIOUS.
June 28, 2026 at 8:41 am #1978416no sane person would want the heat we’re having …
I want to have a walk-in freezer so I can cool off and breath a bit.
32 degrees Celcius / 50% humidity … and that’s after a night of thunder and lightning. This song has the best intro ever :
Let’s go metal …
June 28, 2026 at 10:05 am #1978417@a27cromwell Sounds idyllic.
Here’s a little set I worked on yesterday. Didn’t take long. 8mm miniatures game in a box by Space Denizens:

Cute 🙂 On to the Sand miniatures I got at Salute.
June 29, 2026 at 8:02 am #1978465Cute little box.
Monday, we’re down to 22°C at the moment but it’s getting windy and rainy. But I’m inside, I have coffee.
June 29, 2026 at 12:57 pm #1978527Sunday and Monday we are getting a year’s worth of rain in 48 hours. It’s getting really old. On the plus side, me and Mrs Grantinvanman are committing to building our forever home – signing papers today. About 10 months to do the build. I’ll have an entire basement fitted just for me! No more losing my hobby room to guests.
